The Texas Ramp Project builds wheelchair ramps for disabled or elderly people who can’t afford to buy one. In a few hours on a Saturday morning, we give these folks the freedom to leave their home again - the home where they want to remain but whose steps have imprisoned them.

The Ramp Referral Process

If you are a social worker and/or healthcare professional -

Have a client who needs a ramp? You are in the right place. All you need to do is complete the online referral form to start the process.

Priority is given to clients from Hospice facilities, dialysis patients, and those who are living alone and are unable to exit their home. Those three priority classes have a "button" at the bottom of the referral form. If you feel your client needs priority and he/she does not fit any of these three categories, please indicate so (and why) in any of the free-form text boxes. A common example is an acute patient about to discharge from a medical facility to the home - e.g. auto accident amputee living in a mobile home, etc.

If you are someone who needs a ramp -

We cannot take your referral directly. We do not interact directly with potential clients. You will be MUCH better served if you ask your social worker or healthcare professional to make the referral to us, as he or she will already have a working relationship with us, and will already have established your physical and financial need.

Comfy Casas provides minor home repairs and, various home appliances to low-income seniors and disabled adults.

Client referrals come from intake assessment coordinators, volunteers, and paid delivery drivers. These essential visits enable us to identify and address the clients' home safety needs. The coordinator conducts an initial walk-through in person or over the phone to discuss much-needed repairs with the client. Minor home projects completed by volunteers. Projects beyond the scope of this service are referred to other organizations.

One of the easiest things we can do is ensure the temperature in our clients' homes is seasonally appropriate. So that means providing ACs and heaters to ensure our clients stay cool in the summer and warm in the winter. In 2020, we have helped 449 senior neighbors age comfortably and safely in their homes!

We are unable to accommodate major home repairs and electrical repairs.

To receive services from Comfy Casas:

  • You must be receiving meals from Meals on Wheels San Antonio.
  • Minor home repairs require the client to be the homeowner and reside in Bexar County.

The Warm Hearts, Warm Homes program is a locally-funded project that delivers a free space heater to older adults or veterans who have no safe source of heat inside their homes.

Thanks to the continued generosity and contributions from our fellow citizens - since 2009, the Warm Hearts program has been able to support over 100 homes, every year, across our 13-County service area.

To qualify, persons must be 60 years of age or older and a resident of one of the 13 counties in the AACOG Region. The recipient must also have no current, safe means of heating in their home, or the existing heating source is not working. A stove or oven is not considered a safe and adequate source of heating a home, as this regularly leads to numerous fires and casualties in our community.

For more information, or to request a heater, call the Alamo Service Connection at (210) 477-3275 (or toll free at 866-231-4922) or email for details.

The Weatherization Assistance program is designed to help low-income individuals overcome the high cost of energy through the installation of energy conservation measures. Although the program does not address major home repairs, it can help lower the amount of energy used in a home by enhancing the structure's thermal boundary, ultimately helping a home stay warm in the colder months and cold in the warmer months.

Qualification for weatherization assistance is a three-step process.

  1. The applicant's total household income must meet federal income eligibility requirements.
  2. The person completing the application must be a U.S. Citizen or show proof of eligible Resident Alien Status to receive federal benefits.
  3. The home must be structurally sound (no major roof repairs, plumbing leaks, foundation problems, faulty electrical wiring, or similar structural issues).

The Missions Ministry allows First Baptist Church of Castroville to reach out to our community and help those in need so we can demonstrate the love of God as individuals and as a church.

We seek to assist those who are in need and/or are not physically capable of making repairs to their homes.

Our work crews build or repair homes for families residing in dangerous structures due to damage and disrepair.

For information regarding the Missions Ministry, please email the Missions Minister, Tina Santee.

The First Baptist Church of Castroville will provide repair services in the area as needed during spring and summer breaks.
