Our Mission: Promote the dignity and independence of seniors who are in need of nutritious meals, companionship, and Alzheimer’s care.

Our Vision: Eliminate hunger, alleviate isolation, and foster independence among seniors, in partnership with volunteers and the community.

The number of seniors in our country will grow exponentially in the coming years. Meals on Wheels is a proven public-private partnership that effectively addresses the challenges of aging by promoting health and improving quality of life for our nation's most vulnerable seniors. By leveraging the existing Meals on Wheels Network, we have the opportunity to not only keep seniors at home, where they want to be, but also save billions in tax dollars by keeping them out of more costly healthcare alternatives.

Meals on Wheels San Antonio provides emergency meal packages to the seniors we serve. These packages contain shelf stable food items and are meant to address two main emergencies: immediate relief of hunger and potential weather conditions barring regular meal delivery. Our Client Services Team supply emergency meals to new clients who are in need of an immediate food source. Emergency meals are also delivered every December to all meal recipients in anticipation of inclement weather.

The Meals on Wheels San Antonio Friendly Visitor Program is a volunteer-based program where the goal is to provide companionship and a meaningful friendship to a homebound citizen in Bexar County. Friendly Visitors are matched with a homebound senior based on personality/interests and scheduling needs. Friendly Visitor volunteers usually serve one to three hours per week with a homebound senior and do things such as play games, take a walk, or chat over coffee or tea. This position is great for individuals who have a heart for helping out others and who would love to spend some free time with a person who needs a Friendly Visitor. Too often, seniors who are no longer able to leave their homes can start to feel isolated, lonely and depressed, which may worsen existing health conditions. Friendly Visitor volunteers help to alleviate concerns by visiting a homebound senior to provide much needed companionship. Just a simple conversation can make all the difference to lonely person. Volunteers interested in becoming a Friendly Visitor must: • Be at least 18 years of age • Pass a criminal and sex offender background check • Complete a one-hour training/orientation • Be a little flexible to care recipients' need for quality time • Be able to relate in a positive and warm manner to older adults Friendly Visitor volunteers are matched with older adults based on personality and interest, so that a bond can easily be developed. Once paired, volunteers are expected to provide friendship and conversation. In some cases, Friendly Visitors offer minor assistance where appropriate (e.g. walks in the neighborhood, computer assistance, etc.). For more information about receiving services, please contact a member of our Client Services team at 210-735-5115. To learn more about volunteering, please fill out the below form; or contact Lynne Holmquist, Friendly Volunteer Coordinator, at [email protected] or 210-735-5115.
Any Meals on Wheels client who is in need of companionship services, may be suffering from depression, or has experienced the loss of a loved one, may be eligible for service.

Grace Place Alzheimer’s Activity Centers are San Antonio’s only non-profit Alzheimer’s-specific adult day activity centers. Our services provide socialization and activities for those living with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementia. These activities focus on the strengths and abilities of our clients, and are facilitated by staff who are trained in dementia care. For family members, caring for a person with dementia can be difficult and stressful. We recognize that job performance, personal well-being and finances are often affected by becoming a caregiver. At Grace Place, our goal is to alleviate stress by providing affordable and safe respite care so our clients’ families can lead a more balanced and healthy life.
Anyone living with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementia is eligible.
Full Days are $40 per day. Grace Place proudly serves those who have served us! We work in partnership with the VA who provides funding for eligible veterans.

We deliver meals for lunch, breakfast, and the weekend. In fact, for many of our clients, the nutritious, lunch-time meal we provide is the only meal they eat a day. In order to better maintain the health of these individuals Meals on Wheels also provides packages of breakfast food items and/or specially made frozen meals to offer additional nutrition outside of the lunch-time hours.
