Merced makes health- and safety-related home repairs for very low-income homeowners who cannot afford to keep their homes safe, sanitary, or structurally sound. Merced makes repairs at no cost to the homeowners. Most of the homeowners Merced serves are older adults. These repairs enable them to age in place safely and comfortably. The repairs can include but are not limited to electrical, plumbing, HVAC, roofs, foundations, and accessibility modifications such as ADA compliant bathrooms and wheelchair ramps.
Merced also provides supportive services for homeowners. Merced staff connect them with resources to meet their needs in addition to safe housing, such as food security, healthcare, transportation, and
help creating legal documents such as wills and advance directives.
At this time, only homes in the following areas qualify for this service:
- Unincorporated Areas of Bexar County (properties not assessed city taxes)
