What is domestic abuse? Domestic abuse can be physical, sexual, emotional, verbal, economic, and/or psychological. The perpetrator's intention, whether conscious or unconscious, is to establish control over the victim. Not all forms are illegal, and physical signs may not always be evident. Children's Hospital San Antonio provides a safe and caring home away from home for the families of children receiving essential medical services in San Antonio, Texas.
Many people would describe us as a homeless shelter, but we are so much more. We help and serve families with children who are willing to do their part to help themselves. The adults work and seek employment. We also have them attend classes and group meetings that focus on their individual and family needs. We like to use tools such as food, clothing and shelter to share the truth that a relationship with Jesus Christ is the most important necessity in life.
The shelter provides immediate, short-term housing for women and families experiencing homelessness. It is the only Emergency Shelter program in Bexar County that is able to house a complete family. The objective is to move these individuals and families from crisis to stability with emergency shelter.
Rooms come available most days on a first-come, first-served basis.
Women, mothers and children, and intact families. (Couples must show a marriage certificate.)
Free.

4.2 million youth in the United States experience homelessness each year. LGBTQ+ youth are 120% more likely to experience homelessness due to family conflicts, rejection, aging out of the foster care system, and poverty. Thrive’s emergency shelter is housed on the campus of Haven for Hope and provides 10 young adults with shelter for up to 6 months.
The core services at our emergency shelter include not only basic needs of food and shelter but individually tailored and youth-directed case management plans to help young adults move forward in exiting homelessness.
While LGBTQ+ youth experiencing homelessness have similar needs to their non-LGBTQ+ peers, they also have additional unique needs specific to their identities.Thrive assists young adults with linkage to resources such as ID recovery, counseling, medical services, gender-affirming care, educational opportunities, and vocational training in a safe and supportive environment.
Our focus is to help remove barriers that young adults may encounter in seeking services and help guide them toward their next move in achieving their goals.
Any LGBTQ youth and young adults are provided shelter up to 6 months.

Thousands of unaccompanied children cross the border to the United States from Central America each year and are transferred to the custody of ORR. ORR promptly places these children in the least restrictive setting in the best interest of the child. St. PJ's is an approved ORR shelter.
The majority of unaccompanied children are between 13 and 17 years of age; a larger proportion are boys.
