We serve from 724 Chestnut Street, which is the gated parking lot of Church Under the Bridge. In inclement weather, we serve inside the church in the fellowship hall.

Here’s how Safe Place works:

Step One – A young person enters a Safe Place and asks for help.

Step Two – The site employee finds a comfortable place for the youth to wait while they call the licensed Safe Place agency. For the greater San Antonio area that is Roy Maas Youth Alternatives (RMYA).

Step Three – An RMYA staff member will talk with the youth to get more information and explain that an SAPD officer can escort them to the RMYA Bridge Emergency shelter.  If the child is agreeable, the RMYA staff will contact SAPD to transport the youth to the shelter.

Step Four – Once at the Bridge, direct-care staff and counselors meet with the youth and provide support. Agency staff ensures the youth and their families receive the help and professional services they need.

This program is for youth under the age of 18 in need of immediate help and safety.

Free.

St Vinnys Bistro is not a soup kitchen. We provide three hot nutritious meals each day, 365 days a year, to adults in the Courtyard area of the multi-agency, multi-service Haven for Hope homeless campus.

We also provide sack lunches for the working homeless, as well as snacks for those who need to have food with their medication.

Additionally, we provide food service training to the homeless who wish to learn a skill that will lead them to a stable and sustainable future. Currently, we employ four permanent line cooks, all of whom were formerly homeless,  and four temporary line cooks, all of whom are currently homeless. This on-the-job training provides upward economic mobility and hope to the homeless who participate in the program, ensuring they have the means to lift themselves out of homelessness.

Click here for an inside look.

Service is limited to adult homeless individuals due to Haven for Hope Courtyard policy.

Head Start promotes school readiness by encouraging parent involvement and through children's cognitive, social, emotional, language, and physical development.

Head Start aims for every child to be:

  • Achieving developmental milestones
  • Safe, healthy, and well
  • School ready
  • Forming positive relationships

Family Service Head Start is much more than child care; it’s quality early childhood education that includes:

  • Research-Based Curricula Lesson plans are built around research on children’s development and learning and promote positive progress and outcomes.
  • Family Engagement Parents' and caregivers' involvement in their children’s education has a long-term impact on their child’s success. Our Centers make it easy for parents to be involved.
  • Lower Ratios Our classrooms have fewer students per teacher, allowing for more individualized care and attention.
  • Wraparound Services Resources and services are provided to help the child and family thrive.

The age requirement for our Head Start Prekindergarten Program is three years old on or before September 1.
