Lawn Care and Maintenance:

We are looking for lawn care volunteers to help seniors enjoy a safe and well-maintained yard. Having a clean yard helps seniors keep pride in their homes - a feeling that all homeowners should have the chance to enjoy. Volunteers of all ages welcome. Does not have to have a mower, but having a mower and a truck to haul is a bonus.

Grocery Preparation:

You will be opening bulk boxes and then set them up containers. Bulk dry goods are divided into smaller packages, so they can be easily distributed into individual grocery bags. Come join us as we set up for our monthly grocery distribution. You can come for an hour or all day. Volunteers of all ages welcome. It’s a great way to give back to the community.

Grocery Bag and Deliver:

After Grocery Preparation volunteer day, we fill separate grocery bags of non-perishable items, for each of our elderly. We load the bags into vehicles and visit our seniors with fresh groceries putting smiles on their faces. Come join us as we serve our community; we need volunteers to bag and deliver groceries to low income elderly. It will be rewarding to positively impact these lives. This takes place the 1st & 3rd Saturday of every month from 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM It’s a great way to give back to the community.

Conviva Food Distribution:

San Antonio Food Bank has a program for seniors called "Project Hope". Conviva is a Humana Health Care agency and distributor for Project Hope. Conviva has partnered with King's Compassion, so that we can get food for our seniors. Come join us as we partner with Conviva and re-package bulk food for Conviva's listed seniors and then King's Compassion takes the packed groceries to the homes of our seniors. We sort & re-package bulk items from 8:30 AM - 12:00 PM and then King's Compassion begins loading their groceries for delivery. This takes place the 4th Tuesday of every month. It’s a great way to give back to the community.

Beginning in 1999, we have teamed with Habitat for Humanity of San Antonio, Inc. (HFHSA) to build an affordable home every fall here in San Antonio. Habitat for Humanity of San Antonio, Inc. (HFHSA) is an ecumenical Christian non-profit housing organization working in partnership with God’s people in need to build decent and affordable houses without interest or profit, thereby witnessing God’s love in action.

The St. Francis of Assisi Habitat team partnered with St. Luke’s Catholic Church for our 2022 Habitat for Humanity of San Antonio home build. We moved our usual Fall project to a Spring build. The home construction began on April 22, 2022, and ended with landscaping day on July 9. Our partnership with St. Luke’s enabled us to take “ownership” of the home-building process and allowed our group to build relationships with our homeowner and neighboring Catholic parish members.

Here, you can watch a video featuring St. Francis parishioner Julie Mellin discussing our parish’s partnership with Habitat for Humanity of San Antonio, Inc.

The Wheel Chair Ministry is part of the American Wheel Chair Mission, a nonprofit dedicated to making immobile people mobile.

We deliver this mobility into the lives of people with physical disabilities who have no means to acquire a wheelchair. Providing a wheelchair to a person without mobility improves the quality of life for their whole family.

A donation of $150 will pay for one wheelchair.

We have delivered wheelchairs to the needy in Nuevo Laredo, Guadalajara, Mexico City, VA Hospitals, Selma, Alabama, Clergy Retirement Centers, and several local disadvantaged people.

If you would like to make a monetary donation to help provide wheelchairs to those in need, you may send a check, payable to American Wheelchair Mission, to the church office or place it in the collection basket the next time you come to Mass at St. Mark's.

If you wish to help provide wheelchairs to those in need with a monetary donation, you may simply place a check (payable to American Wheelchair Mission) in the collection basket the next time you come to Mass at St. Mark's.

One of the ways that we can help meet the need of the San Antonio community is by partnering with civic-minded businesses and corporations. In 2011, SAYL started our Corporate Reading Buddy Program in which employers allow their employees to volunteer one hour a week at an elementary school near the office. Through this partnership, SAYL is able to provide Reading Buddies at harder to reach elementary schools, thus helping to ensure that every 2nd-grade student in San Antonio who needs a Reading Buddy is matched with one!

Why partner with SAYL:

  • Provides corporate volunteers the opportunity to engage in a one-on-one tutoring program
  • Reading Buddies are required to give just one hour per week during the school day for the school year
  • Multiple school locations to choose from - currently we serve over 65 schools in 5 school districts
  • Make a difference in a child’s life!

What SAYL provides:

  • In-office training
  • Management of the reading curriculum and all Reading Buddy sites
  • All books and materials
  • Pre- and post-assessments for program students
  • Monthly site visits to maintain program quality
  • Sharing of data that shows your time and commitment yield success!

Volunteer

We are looking for more incredible team members to be a part of something amazing.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with us! We could not exist without our volunteers, who we lovingly refer to as Vaultkeepers! Vault is open on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and 1st/3rd Saturdays from 10am-1pm. We are located at 16120 College Oak, Ste 103, San Antonio.

A typical shift will include sorting and hanging clothing, inspecting and organizing donations, accepting donations, greeting and helping foster parents “shop” – some shifts we are very busy, and other shifts are very quiet….however, we will always have a job for you!

Kidkeepers, are volunteers who help supervise children during our KidZone Play Days. This is a high energy and active opportunity on Wednesdays from 9:30am to 11:30am. The goal of these play days is for the caregivers to be able to connect with each other and our volunteers keep their kids safe and engaged in play in our sensory gym area.
