It is our mission to provide a helping hand to community members who are struggling to meet their basic needs and more importantly provide them with the tools they need to not only survive but to thrive.
Whether it be our youth looking for a way to advance themselves with job opportunities, a single mother struggling with food insecurity, or a senior on a fixed income looking for utility assistance, the biggest barrier to success is the lack of access to resources.
Building Brighter Communities works to provide food and other necessities like toothbrushes and toothpaste to people who lack access to them either to financial or mobility barriers. We partner with other organizations that can provide food resources when possible and we make emergency grocery runs when necessary. We assist community members with applying for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) program for those who are eligible. We connect individuals with other long-term food assistance programs who are not eligible for government assistance.
Many government and nonprofit programs offer rent and utility assistance that a lot of people qualify for.
Building Brighter Communities is bringing access to these rent and utility assistance programs to members of our community who wouldn’t otherwise have been alerted to it or have access to it. Not only do we help identify programs an individual or family will be eligible for but we will also assist with the paperwork for signing up with these programs.
Our Street Outreach program identifies homeless citizens, connects them with programs offered by Bexar County to assist with housing, stays with them through the housing process, and follows up to see how we can help further after they are housed.
Building Brighter Communities connects people with (often FREE) training programs that will help them secure good-paying jobs in the short term while preparing them for the workplace of the future.
We also help individuals develop resumes that will stand out in the job market.
We also connect local businesses that are hiring with community members who are eager to find work.
