The Peer Coaching and Support program’s primary purpose is to help combat veterans find healing and achieve positive reintegration with their families and society.

We also have Family Coordinators who sit down with the family members to help them process the secondary PTSD symptoms that they begin to exhibit as a result of the trauma we bring into the home.

Additionally, we offer a six-to-nine-month program at Camp Hope in Houston for veterans dealing with addiction problems, who are currently homeless or find themselves caught up in the legal system. We assist in employment opportunities, benefit claims, educational benefits, housing, and in some instances procurement of permanent transportation.

As advocates for recovery, we also host support programs and trauma intervention training at our SA facility throughout the year.

Training courses such as ASIST (suicide prevention program), Suicide PIP (Partners in Prevention), Mental Health First Aid, First Responders Chaplaincy Training, First Responder Peer Support Course, Strategic Response to Crisis, First Responder Response to Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence, and others are conducted regularly.

We network at the state and local levels to streamline veterans' accessibility to critical resources including housing, employment, medical, legal, and military benefits.

What is Alpha-Stim Therapy?

Alpha-Stim is an electrotherapy device that is very effective in treating anxiety, depression, and insomnia. It has also been proven to be a great tool for pain management. Users of Alpha-Stim won't need to worry about any side effects or negative reactions to medications being taken.

Click here to watch a video about  Alpha-Stim

How Does Alpha-Stim Work?

Alpha-Stim is a cranial electrotherapy stimulation (CES) device, almost similar in size to a small cellphone. It is designed to deliver a very tiny microcurrent, through small clips attached to a person's earlobes, to the brain. This current, which is so gentle that few people can feel it, will then stimulate and adjust a specific set of nerve cells in the brain. CES can bring relief to those who have anxiety and depression. It can also counter insomnia and improve sleep quality significantly.

Alpha-Stim treatment usually lasts for 20 minutes and up to an hour, depending on what the doctor says. Being a portable device, treatment can be done at the office during a long break, in the privacy of your own home, or at a therapy center. With the clips being small and attached to your ears, you will look like you are relaxing while listening to music.

Alpha-Stim can also be used to provide electrical stimulation on areas of the body that are experiencing post-traumatic, acute, or chronic pain for pain management.

Trauma doesn't just affect an individual. Its aftershocks can be felt years after as new relationships can bring triggering reminders of past hurts. Past hurts can impact an entire family as they interfere with trust, connection, and even the ability to enjoy everyday activities. Providing a space for healing within a marriage and/or family is a critical piece of recovery that allows everyone to move forward into true healing.

Family therapy, also known as family counseling, is a form of psychotherapy that aims to assist members of a family to address issues affecting them as a whole. With Innova Recovery, families can be closer, learn to communicate better, and understand how to work together when conflicts arise in the future.

Familial bonds are one of the strongest, if not the strongest, connections an individual can have with another. But while these bonds are special, they can still be affected by various family-related problems and misunderstandings. Family counseling helps mend this relationship between family members so it can be strong and healthy again. Compared to individual therapy, where the focus is placed on an individual's struggles, the focus of family therapy is on the people within a family unit.

Family counseling allows a family that is experiencing troubles to come together in a neutral space and address the issues at hand with a family therapist. The source of the conflicts is varied but well-known, often ranging from financial problems to communication difficulties between parents and their children. These conflicts worsen because family members are unable to share, understand, process, or cope with the situation. With Innova Recovery, families can:

  • Explore how they can resolve family issues in a forward-moving way and share what they feel and think in a productive manner
  • Explore elements of the family to understand the issues that start or add to their conflict, and then discuss how to get through them
  • Explore and enumerate the strengths and weaknesses of the family

Family counseling is often done alongside other mental health treatments. This happens when one family member is trying to recover from substance abuse or has a mental illness and everyone else wants to better understand what their relative, sibling, parent, or child is going through. Family therapy can help prevent a condition or addiction of the affected individual from getting worse by increasing the awareness of every family member.

Music Therapy is a clinical and therapeutic practice that uses music to achieve specific goals for individuals, such as treating trauma, PTSD, depression, and anxiety.

What is Music Therapy?

There is something about music that has power over us. It can entice us, and make us feel warm or cold. It can raise us to happiness and bring us down to sadness. It can make us feel weak, and it can also make us feel strong. Thanks to this ‘power,’ many have sought to use it for its therapeutic benefits. There is a lot of well-documented research on the subject.

The power that music has over us can help our young clients understand that it's okay to feel what they are feeling. Music has always provided us with an outlet for our emotions, be they positive or negative. Paired with the ideas of Music Therapy, music can be used to create a safe space for teens and adults alike, a space where they can heal.

Results of Music Therapy for Depression

Research and documented results have shown that Music Therapy heals the brain's neural pathways previously damaged by emotional and physical trauma, and can strengthen a teen's resilience against future events or related stressors.

In regards to anxiety, trauma, or PTSD in teens and adults, Music Therapy has been shown to decrease related symptoms by a great degree. Our young clients have mentioned they no longer have nightmares and aren't always irritable or anxious.

There was one particular study that looked at the brain waves of clients during a Music Therapy session. From the recorded brain patterns they have gathered, the researchers could easily tell when emotions changed from negative to positive. Other studies showed how music can help heal a client's body, such as lowering their heart rates and blood pressure.

Play Therapy is the use of playtime where a therapist applies their therapeutic techniques to children. It's a method that involves using toys, imaginative play or make-believe, and other activities that help children feel at ease when with the therapist. With play therapy, a therapist can observe, interact, and help children understand their emotions, find ways to express themselves to adults, discover coping mechanisms, or deal with past trauma.

Directive Play Therapy

This form of play therapy involves the therapist having much greater involvement during a session. It may be intrusive, as the therapist may share specific instructions on how a child should play in the playroom. It is believed that directive play therapy will yield therapeutic results much faster than Nondirective Play Therapy.

Nondirective Play Therapy

A non-intrusive style of play therapy that involves very little instruction from the therapist. It's believed that children can solve their issues given that they have more freedom of play and that therapeutic conditions are favorable. Nondirective sessions will allow the child to take things at their own pace.

The Play Therapy Process

Play therapy is often used with children who are between 2 to 12 years of age and will differ depending on the needs of the child and the kind of play they will engage in. The process is broken into phases, with an intake interview and pretreatment assessment being conducted first to determine the unique needs of the child.

  • Introduction Phase
The child is given a chance to get used to their therapist, and their playroom, and to understand the play therapy process. This will be a difficult time for most children since parents won't be present.
  • Tentative Phase
Once a child is willing to share what they are thinking and feeling, the therapist lets them communicate in the way they choose during play. The therapist will take note of the child's interaction with toys, the theme of the play, and any behavior change.
  • Negative Reaction Phase
As play therapy progresses, the child may become comfortable enough in the playroom to fall back to old patterns and behaviors. Parents must provide their children with a lot of support during this phase.
  • Growing Phase
By this phase, children will be aware of their difficulties and will have a better understanding of what they can do to change them. This part of play therapy is typically longer and harder because a child will often go back and forth between advancing and regressing.
  • Termination Phase
Once this phase is reached, the child should be at a point where their behavioral and emotional aspects have become consistent and balanced outside of the playroom. This will be a hard phase for children because of the attachment they have made with the therapist.

During the whole process, the play therapist will be relying on the parents to provide news of their child's behavior, both good and bad, to determine the progress of the treatment.

We offer an authentic level of care that is ideal for adolescents who need regular therapeutic support. Day treatment is excellent for those who do not want to skip school or miss out on having fun with friends and family.

Day Treatment for Teens is an evidence-based program designed solely for kids struggling with social challenges due to their mental health issues. It can be done after school or during vacation days, both of which allow for longer and more consistent hours for guided therapy.

Our program will allow your teens to learn and grow in an environment that is inclusive and non-judgemental. Through our empirically proven therapies, we will equip your adolescents with the right tools to handle their past traumas as well as navigate school and relationship challenges.

They will learn:

  • How to form strong social bonds with their family, friends, and peers.
  • Strategies to better understand themselves and their emotions.
  • Methods that will help them stay productive and not just busy.
  • Ways to manage their emotions and behavior to reduce how badly certain mental health-related symptoms will affect them.
  • How to communicate well with others, especially with those who want to help them.

If you feel your teenager is not making any progress therapy-wise, you should consider having their teens join our program. Day Treatment for Teens can be recommended for many reasons, including:

  • Your teen feels life is a constant struggle, especially when they are in a social situation in school.
  • Previous therapy sessions do not seem to be helping or are no longer effective for, your teenager.
  • A mental health diagnosis was made and the therapist believes group-based day treatment will be better than individual therapy.

This level of care is ideal for teens who need intensive therapeutic support during the day but can return home at night. For many adolescents who are concerned about being away from home, this is ideal.

Teens attend programming 8 hours per day, 5-6 days per week, all while going home at night.

Teens in Innova's PhP receive seven hours of therapeutic intervention per day. The intervention includes on-site schooling, led by a certified teacher who also understands mental health and provides individualized attention. They will also spend time with specialized therapeutic groups designed to target symptoms commonly associated with trauma, such as:

  • Avoidance of people, places, and relationships
  • Nightmares and sleep issues
  • Social anxiety
  • Difficulty connecting with others
  • Behavior problems
  • Self-harm
  • Irritability, angry outbursts
  • Difficulty trusting others
  • Trouble at school

We are partnered with an accredited school so your teen can earn credits while getting the support they need.  Many of our teens can catch up on missed credits or even get ahead by earning extra credits while in our program.

We present skills in a way that is engaging and easy for teenagers to understand.   We also work to uncover the cause of their struggles so that issues at dealt with at the root and not just covered up.

Over time, disorders such as Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), and more can develop as a result of these cognitive distortions. Below are four examples of cognitive distortions identified in CBT.

  • Individual Therapy
In most teen treatment centers, individual sessions are offered only once a week. At Innova Joy, teens attend multiple weekly sessions with licensed clinicians. We create specialized treatment plans tailored to the specific constellation of behaviors and co-occurring issues.
  • Parent Support
You desire a deeper bond and understanding with your teen, but may just not know how to get there. Innova Joy offers coaching and support groups for parents to redefine their relationships with their teens, allowing for improved communication, understanding, and trust.
  • Academics
The academic component of your teen's life is critical to establishing a structured environment. Your child will attend classes daily with a certified teacher to help regain school credits and ensure they are well prepared academically post-graduation from our program.
  • Trauma-Focused Treatment
Trauma is often stored in the body as well as the mind; therefore, we believe in treating the whole person. From animal-assisted therapy to EMDR, we ensure that every aspect of your teen's experience promotes healing and wellness.

Vibroacoustic Therapy (VAT) uses thousand-year-old methods paired with modern technology to produce incredible results. The body is 70% water, making Vibroacoustic sound vibrations five times more effective because they travel through water, rather than air. This helps achieve deep, cellular healing mentally and physically.

What is Vibroacoustic Therapy?

Vibroacoustic Therapy, or VAT, is essentially a deep tissue low-frequency sound massage using audio waves in the range of 30Hz-120 Hz that are transmitted to the body by embedded transducers in the bed. The sound gently permeates the cells allowing massage from inside as well as out. Because our bodies are approximately 60% water, water transmits sound and vibrations perfectly to our bodies. While floating in incredible comfort on the water waves your body is bathed in soothing sound and relaxing vibroacoustic vibrations.

VAT may be an independent therapy or incorporated with medical treatment and psychotherapy. As a natural energy booster and pain killer that is composed of a variety of frequency therapy solutions that can be used as a self-management tool, it is beneficial to people with chronic or special needs, and any person with stress who wants to apply preventive and integrative wellness therapy.

VAT has been studied by researchers worldwide including the National Institutes of Health (NIH). NIH reports the benefits of using VAT for Parkinson's, PTSD, anxiety, physical injuries, brain function, COPD, Asthma, and much more.

Some Benefits Include:

  • Increase sleep quality
  • Reduce or eliminate the effects of stress
  • Address PTSD / somatic ( physical) symptoms
  • Regulate the limbic system (emotional memories)
  • Activate the Relaxation Response
  • Reduce anxiety and muscle pain or spasms
  • Shorten healing periods/increase circulation
