Contemplative Arts comprise a number of secular disciplines and activities, including flower arranging and photography, that integrate art and culture with everyday life. Each of these disciplines represents a genuine contemplative path; together they bring beauty, vividness, and wisdom to our lives and culture.

Shambhala Art is art that springs from clear perception and pure expression. To artist or non-artist, the creative process often seems mysterious and magical. How do we give a physical reality to some ephemeral inspiration or abstract truth? How do we create forms that communicate some essential nature beyond the limits of their container? The Shambhala Art Program’s purpose is to explore the creative process and the product we call art from the point of view of clear perception and pure expression. It is about the source of inspiration, how the creative process manifests and finally how what we create communicates that inspiration.

The Micronaut Program at Scobee Education Center provides young children age 4 – 9 with an authentic STEM experience as they travel through a simulated mission to the International Space Station. The mission models “Best Practices” in early childhood education that capitalizes on the young child’s natural curiosity to explore and learn about the world they are a part of. By making STEM education a focus of a child’s early education we begin to change the world one class at a time by instilling a lifelong passion to learn about and care for our planet earth. By inspiring and educating young children we contribute to our national goal of a scientifically literate society.

Show your child the true magic of reading with The DoSeum's Author Series. Over the course of the year, we will feature four children's authors whose literature excites, inspires, and educates. At The DoSeum, they’ll read their stories aloud, share their creative process, sign books, and meet and mingle with families afterwards. These engaging visits aren’t just fun—they help foster a deeper appreciation and connection to the books your child is reading. This immersive experience might even inspire you and your family to write your own stories! Are you or your child budding authors? Come find out with us!

Your child's curiosity knows no bounds and there are no limits to what they can do. The DoSeum Beyond Limits is our revitalized program created to meet the needs of all of San Antonio's children, no matter how big or how small those needs may be. At The DoSeum Beyond Limits, we create a peaceful environment of inclusivity that supports children of all needs-providing a spectrum of possibilities as diverse and vibrant as the children we serve.

  • Smaller, controlled crowds to create a calm, uncrowded environment ideal for families in need of accommodations for high sensitivity to sensory stimuli, limited mobility, and generally in need of a calmer, quieter space.
  • Accommodating accessories of your choice to make your experience suit your needs. Sunglasses, headphones, and earplugs are all available at the front desk, free of charge.
  • Assistive signage to help guide your family towards learning environments that best suit your needs-marking high sensory, low sensory, calming, and tactile areas.
  • Exhibit modifications to create calmer environments for families with high-sensitivities to stimuli, including decreased noise, soothing light changes, and more.
  • Specialized staff to support your family's learning and play needs; staff are specially trained through consultation with community partners by Any Baby Can and the Region 20 Special Education Department.

CineMujer

The CineMujer series offers opportunities for unheard women’s voices to break the silence using films and videos – providing a platform for alternate perspectives with those films that depict issues of social, economic, racial and environmental justice. The series have also provided a platform for women filmmakers to demonstrate their line of work.

Past installments of CineMujer have featured over 100 critically acclaimed films focusing on a range of issues including the emergence of Afro-German consciousness, racial justice organizing, the political and historical heritage of Latin America, the power of ideas, the need to reflect and evaluate social justice tactics, the emergence of bilingual education, the search for self identity, and much more. Each series also hopes to highlight significant women – many marked as revolutionaries, visionaries, and radicals.

Other, Out & Beyond Film Programming

The Esperanza Peace and Justice Center’s Other, Out and Beyond Film Series captures the traditions of the Esperanza’s historic film and video festivals: Out at the Movies; The Other America and CineMujer. Through the Other, Out and Beyond Film Series, Esperanza moves “beyond” the range of these historic festivals, incorporating an even broader range of international issues of social and political import.

Other, Out and Beyond celebrates the lives, struggles, cultures and strength of people throughout the world.  It’s about expanding our minds, expanding our hearts, and expanding our communities to embrace across difference.

Esperanza’s annual International Peace Market/Mercado Internacional de Paz brings people together in the tradition of open-air markets found in indigenous communities around the world.

The Peace Market fills up two floors of the Esperanza Center and spills out into the patio and onto Evergreen St. with a festive community spirit. El Mercado de Paz gives shoppers direct access to global and local artesanos who sell unique handcrafted goods with themes of peace, social justice, cultural diversity and ecological concerns and it provides an alternative to the hectic holiday shopping offered by malls, big-box stores and impersonal vendors.

The success of Peace Market lies in the selection of vendors who see that the trend towards corporate shopping and mass production is leading to a decline of humanity. Our shoppers interact directly with artists and know that their hard-earned money goes to deserving individuals and the communities they represent.

Live performances as well as a variety of food and drinks for sale makes the day even more enjoyable for gente of all ages.

Other notable guests at the Peace Market include international artisans well known throughout the world. Artisans have included Teresa López Jiménez from Jichitan, Vasquez Family members from Teotitlan, Cristina Antonio Herrera, Irene Aguilar, Cecilia Bautista, Magdalena Pedro Martinez, Enedina Vasquez Cruz, Verónica Lorenzo Quiroz from, Taller Leñateros from Chiapas, and numerous artisans from the Red Binacional Niu Matat Napawika a network of artisan groups from across Mexico.

The Esperanza provides affordable art and writing workshops, media literacy and cultural/technical skill-building trainings, and cultural tours on a rolling basis throughout the year.

We believe that art can and should be accessible to all and not just to those who can afford it. Using that approach, we coordinate many events around our cultural art programs in order to expose community members to the methods used by many of contemporary artists, but also to allow our guests artists to contribute back.

Advanced Learning Academy (ALA) lifts the ceiling on learning for all members of the educational community. ALA provides 21st-century opportunities within a caring and open community and fosters a depth of thinking, problem-solving, creative design, and real-world applications. Students develop deep content knowledge and cutting-edge learning skills to prepare them for any and all futures they can envision.

The curriculum at ALA relies heavily on Project-Based Learning, which is an approach to education that emphasizes learning through creating. Projects aren’t just replacements for tests, they’re real-world creations that start their development at the very beginning of a new unit of content.

ALA is built around four commitments in service of its bold vision for a transformative educational model:

  • deep learning
  • individuality
  • flexible design
  • connection

ALA is open to students in Pre-K to 3rd Grade. If there are fewer applications than seats available, no lottery is conducted and all students are accepted.  If there are more applications than available seats, a lottery is conducted, offers are made for the number of seats available, and the remaining students are waitlisted.

ALA at Euclid (PK-3) Information Sessions:
Students and parents are invited to attend an information session after school on select Thursdays from 4:00-5:00 PM. Once you submit this form, your registration for your selected date and time is confirmed.
