The mission of Alpha Home is to offer the community recovery, hope, and healing through spiritually based drug and alcohol treatment and support.

Spirituality, compassion, integrity, respect, and inclusivity are the core values that we live by.

Alpha Home offers gender-specific Outpatient Treatment in San Antonio for both men and women. Alpha Home’s Outpatient Program is for clients in need of treatment who have the skills and support to recover without residential care.

The Outpatient Program allows the client to enter or continue treatment in the least restrictive setting. The average length of stay is four to six months and will vary based on individual client needs and circumstances.

Our treatment program affirms the best practices of and is routinely informed by the Principles of Drug Addiction Treatment: A Research-Based Guide, published by the National Institute on Drug Abuse.

Girls on the Run inspires girls of all abilities to recognize their individual strengths, while building a sense of connection in a team setting. At the end of the season, the team completes a 5K together, which provides a tangible sense of accomplishment and sets a confident mindset into motion.

Parent Talk is a free, group based program for parents to gather and discuss the many different facets of parenting. Utilizing the nurturing curriculum, our educators facilitate weekly group discussions and activities in a judgment free, safe environment, in various sites throughout the Eastside Promise Neighborhood.

Parent Talk facilitates Parenting and Life Skills education for individuals and family members acting as caregivers to children 0 to 17 years of age, and is offered in both English and Spanish. Our mission is to increase families’ protective factors through encouraging positive parenting practices: family functioning and parental resiliency; social connections and support; nurturing and attachment; through information, and guidance from parent advocates and their peers.

(Meals are offered at each session and childcare is provided at most locations.)

Our Heart & Sole middle school program meets the unique needs of girls of all abilities in 6th-8th grade. The program considers the whole person - body, brain, heart, spirit and social connection. Heart & Sole offers an inclusive place of belonging, where girls feel supported and inspired to explore their emotions, cultivate empathy and strengthen their physical and emotional health. At the end of the season, all program participants complete a 5K.

Sister Dorothy Ettling and Sister Neomi Hayes founded Women’s Global Connection in 2001 under the sponsorship of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word and in partnership with the University of the Incarnate Word to further education and research in the global community.

The WGC online community provides many forms of dialogue, information sharing and learning. As in any community, the strength and power of Women’s Global Connection comes from the contributions of the participants. We welcome you to become a member of our community.

WGC also organizes annual immersion trips to partnering countries to promote understanding of different cultures aimed at building respectful collaborative relationships across the globe; and to provide education for grassroots women around the world as a means of promoting women’s leadership and community development.

Family Service Association offers numerous professional counseling services including Individual, Couples, Family, Group, Substance Abuse Counseling, and Consultations.

We also provide educational groups such as Anger Management and Domestic Violence Prevention designed to help maintain personal wellness.

Services are offered locally in the San Antonio metropolitan area and our rural locations. The services are provided through a combination of at-home and office-based visits. Our licensed counselors are available on days, evenings, Saturdays, and by special appointment.

Our counseling professionals provide services to include working with children, youth, families, and seniors. Our team has many specialized skills to address a wide range of counseling needs. Services are offered for both short and long-term depending on individual needs. We are available to assist with the following:

Funding is provided by United Way, Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, Client Fees, School Districts, Medicaid, Private Contracts, Private Insurance, Criminal Justice Division (CJD) Grant, and Office of Attorney General (OAG) Grant.

Promotoras are state-certified community health workers who offer in-home parenting courses focusing on parenting strengths, growth and development of children, establishing nurturing routines, and guiding children's behavior. The parent education classes use a hands-on curriculum with a concurrent children's program, educational groups, follow-up services, and networking activities. The goal is to ensure children are kindergarten-ready and children have a safe, nurturing home.

A unique pilot program created by Councilwoman Gonzales, along with Family Service, it uses a peer-to-peer mentor model, allowing trained community members known as Promotoras, as well as parents in the same targeted zip code areas, to provide valuable in-home healthcare education to families.

District 5, zip codes 78207 and 78205 primarily, but the Promotoras can serve families throughout Bexar County for families with children under the age of 10.

Chrysalis Ministries offers in-house life skill classes for all clients. We also partner with multiple non-profits to help further client's education.

Case Managers direct families to many Any Baby Can program as well as help link families to many local and state programs. All Any Baby Can services are offered at no cost - regardless of income - to families who have a child birth through 17 years of age with a chronic illness, disability, developmental delay or health risk and who reside in Bexar County or one of the surrounding 18 counties.

Healthy Relationships is a multisession, small-group, skills-building program for men and women living with HIV/AIDS. The program is designed to reduce participants’ stress related to safer sexual behaviors and disclosure of their serostatus to family, friends, and sex partners. The program is based on social cognitive theory, which states that people learn by observing others successfully practicing new behavior.

• Defining stress and reinforcing coping skills with HIV-positive people across three life areas:

• Disclosing to family and friends
• Disclosing to sex partners and
• Building healthier and safer relationships

• Using modeling, role-play, and feedback to teach and practice skills related to coping with stress.
• Teaching decision-making skills around the issue of disclosure of HIV status.
• We provide participants with personal feedback reports to motivate a change in risky behaviors and continuance of protective behaviors.
• We use popular movie clips to set up disclosure and risk-reduction scenarios to stimulate discussions and role-plays.

This program is for students at Woodlawn Academy.

Our Graduate Support Program (GSP) started in 2013-14, and has expanded this year, with the hiring of a Graduate Support Program Director. The GSP offers preparation for our current students to succeed in high school, as well as support for our graduates to excel in high school and college (for a more detailed description of the GSP, see the attached Powerpoint). Each year, 8th graders, and sometimes 6th and 7th graders, receive such preparation.

Such preparation includes:

• HSPT Prep course once a week in the fall semester and into the spring semester, and a College Exploration course in the Spring
• Intensive HSPT workshop offered for free and on-site by St. Anthony High School
• One-on-one guidance for selecting a high school
• Class tours of Catholic high schools and individual shadow days at Catholic high schools 
• One-on-one guidance for preparing academically for High School
• High School Panel where SMMS alumni currently attending and teaching in Catholic high school offered insights and advice for our students, as well as fielded questions about their experiences
• High School Fair where local Catholic High Schools visited our school with staff and students, and our 5th-8th graders were able to informally interview and be interviewed 
• Help with applications for scholarships, including the Marianist Urban Student Program (MUSP) Scholarship through Central Catholic and the St. Joseph’s Scholarship
• Help with the full range of the application procedure for Catholic High Schools
• The cultivation of a college-bound culture through a College Corner, College dress days, college tours, and our stated goal of college and college signage in the school

Transition Education:

OFA incorporates transition education when developing IEP’s for all transition-age students, generally 16 and older. Transition education helps each student set post-school goals and work toward individual career and life goals.

Vocational Services:

At age 14, students begin preparing for independent living by working with teachers/coaches to identify strengths and vocational interests. One for Autism helps students prepare for independence in both their personal and work lives by providing on-site training as well as community integrated vocational programs. Through relationships with local businesses and organizations, One For Autism provides students with opportunities to work and gain on-site experience working with skilled, special needs students.

Workability Program:

One For Autism Academy provides eligible students with access to the Workability program services, including vocational assessments, career counseling and guidance, and career exploration activities. Through the program, students who are identified for paid work training learn skills related to resume writing, interviewing, and finding and keeping a job. They also receive on-site training and supervision from professional job coaches and teachers.

Life Skills Training:

One for Autism Academy places a strong emphasis on teaching students the necessary life skills to work, socialize, remain safe, care for their personal needs and lead the most independent lives possible. Relying on the methods of behavior analysis, One For Autism Academy focuses on the most effective strategies for teaching skills to each student’s optimal level of independence. These strategies include shaping, chaining, discrete trial and naturalistic teaching procedures.

We help students gain self-confidence and greater independence by working closely with families and schools to find approaches that work for students.

Daily living skills are an important part of each’s student’s education. As part of our daily living skills curriculum students learn about:

• Time management
• Personal hygiene
• Food preparation
• Personal finance and money management
• Transportation solutions
• Household management
• Responsible decision-making
• Civic responsibility
• Personal organization
• Recreation and leisure skills.

This program provides financial assistance to households who have become homeless and require short or mid-term assistance to be able to regain housing stability.

Clients/households are referred by the Coordinated Entry system and through the hotline from the City of San Antonio.

Case Management is required to participate in this program.

The Bridges to Care program at Westminster Square offers mental and behavioral health support that includes:

• Confidentiality
• A compassionate listening ear

• Help connecting with peer and family support groups

Wellness Champions at Westminster Square have received training from NAMI San Antonio to be companions to those struggling with mental and behavioral health concerns.

CAST TECH is a partnership school co-created with San Antonio ISD and the CAST Schools Network. Higher education partners include San Antonio College and the University of Texas at San Antonio.

CAST TECH works hand-in-hand with industry partners to prepare students for careers in technology and business, fields where the demand is high for talented workers.

CAST TECH uses computer-based learning to allow students to progress more quickly in areas where they have mastered concepts, allowing them to dive more deeply into projects and areas of great interest. 

Students enrolled in CAST TECH will follow one of three pathways:

• business
• technology
• user experience (UX)

CAST Schools are tuition-free and open to students across the greater San Antonio region who are entering 9th or 10th grade. Our small class sizes provide our educators with the opportunity to meet students where they are and co-create a plan for future success.

College coursework is embedded in the program, and students can earn up to two years of college credit, industry certifications, and portfolios that feature long-term projects and other examples of their work.

Communities In Schools programs surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. Our evidence-based approach, adapted to meet each community’s unique needs, is the basis for our success.

Basic Needs: A student cannot focus in the classroom if he or she is hungry, cold or tired, or cannot see the board. Site coordinators see to it that students' basic needs are met each day.

Enrichment: Our Site coordinators enroll students in a wide variety of after-school and summer programs, field trips and youth conferences to help them gain experience that is essential to meeting college and career goals.

Academic Assistance: Our site coordinators work hard to ensure that students have the resources to progress academically. From providing students with tutors to finding and creating quiet spaces where students can study, we do whatever it takes to create an optimal learning environment for our students.

Life Skills: Through one-on-one workshops, team building, and guest speakers, we work with students to develop social-emotional learning, character education, social skills building, and conflict resolution.

Behavioral Interventions: Many of our students face and overcome difficult obstacles in their lives. However, their survival skills aren’t always effective in the classroom or in the workplace. Our program teaches students positive ways to cope with anger, conflict resolution, and other strategies to keep them focused on school.

Family Engagement: Site coordinators connect families with counselors and social workers to make sure that home is a healthy, nurturing environment where a student can feel safe.

The Advanced Learning Academy (ALA) at Fox Tech is a 4th - 12th Grade campus in the San Antonio Independent School District.

By using the broader community as its classroom, ALA leads in transforming the education model. Teachers collaborate to create a personalized learning experience for all students and foster a passion for exploration, deep thinking, problem-solving, and creative design. Authentic learning experiences provide all students with cutting-edge learning skills that prepare them for all futures they envision for themselves.

ALA Fox Tech campus is open to students in 4th - 12th Grade. If there are fewer applications than seats available, no lottery is conducted and all students are accepted.  If there are more applications than available seats, a lottery is conducted, offers are made for the number of seats available, and the remaining students are waitlisted.  

ALA employs design thinking as a major pillar of its educational philosophy, which uses empathy to understand the needs of real people and understands that problems seldom have one perfect solution.

ALA offers college prep opportunities like AP and dual-credit courses, and extracurricular programs like newspaper, gardening, and art.
