Attention deficit disorder (ADD) is a term that is sometimes used for one of the presentations of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). ADHD is a neurological disorder that causes a range of behavior problems such as difficulties with attending to instruction, focusing on schoolwork, keeping up with assignments, following instructions, completing tasks, and social interaction.
People with the inattentive type of ADHD struggle to pay attention or stay focused for long periods. Some of the symptoms of this type of ADHD include:

This program offers rental assistance to homeless veterans and their families in San Antonio. We help them rapidly find stable housing with services including:

SSVF, funded through the Department of Veteran Affairs, is a program designed to assist very low-income veteran families in obtaining permanent housing.
Under the program, participants receive client-centered case management, individualized housing stability counseling, assistance with obtaining public benefits, referrals to community agencies, and other support services as needed.
Eligible clients include:
- Veteran families currently homeless staying in their cars, parks, abandoned buildings, airports, camping grounds, etc.
- Currently living in their home but at risk of eviction
- Veteran families currently homeless staying in a shelter, transitional housing, hotel, or motel.
- Veteran families who are currently homeless, but scheduled to move into permanent housing within 90 days
We build enriched spiritual relationships with fellow veterans by providing resources and assistance to strengthen their spiritual journey with Christ and develop a renewed spiritual transformation of life.
This program provides financial assistance to veterans struggling to pay rent or mortgage.
Donations are strictly for veterans.

The National Veterans Outreach Program (NVOP) has diversified its service components over the last 35 years to meet the priority needs of the community. In 1997, the NVOP built its first of three apartment complexes designed specifically to provide affordable housing for low-income elderly. Teaming with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the NVOP presently provides 170 apartments for the elderly.
All projects are operated on a non-profit basis, and each apartment is eligible for housing assistance vouchers provided by HUD, making the apartments very affordable for eligible elderly residents. Support services include meals on wheels, food bank assistance, visiting nurses, seasonal social events, and many other amenities that provide a safe and comfortable setting for the independent-living residents.
Residents must be elderly, fixed low-income recipients, and must be able to live independently. Currently, all three properties have a waiting list for apartments.

To enhance veterans' well-being, NVOP initiated the Veterans & Family Wellness Program, securing critical mental health services and ensuring veterans, dependents, and surviving spouses have accessible counseling options.
With generous support from the Texas Veterans Commission, the Texas Department of Health & Human Services, and the City of San Antonio, the Veterans & Family Wellness Program (VFWP) extends sliding-scale counseling services to all Texas counties. Additionally, we provide peer services, and soon, mental health services for non-veterans will be available.
The Veteran and Family Wellness Program provides counseling (individual, group, marriage & family) and Peer support services to Veterans, Veteran dependents, and surviving spouses, including via telehealth and after-hours appointments. Another project operated by the Veterans Enterprises of Texas is a specially designed center that provides work opportunities for veterans with disabilities that are not ready for mainstream employment. The VETS Work Center is a sheltered environment that promotes temporary work opportunities that will assist in the transformation of these veterans to reach their full potential and enter a mainstream work environment.
"VETS" is a member organization of the National Industries for the Severely Handicapped (NISH), also known as Ability-One. "VETS" seeks out contract opportunities with government and private industry to create work that will be conducive to the hiring of a workforce of disabled veterans.
The VETS Work Center’s primary work is "kitting," where assembly of products or materials into a kit create an in-product. A great example is the current contract the Work Center is performing for the U.S. Army who awards retiring soldiers a beautiful commemorative box with a folded American flag, lapel pin, a DVD of information, and some auto decals for retirees. The VETS box manufacturing company (described above) produces the box, and the disabled veterans at the VETS Work Center fold the flags and assemble the pieces to create the commemorative retirement kit.
The Center, which was specifically designed for this fulfillment work, has great warehouse space, robust electrical and pneumatic systems for contracts requiring repetitive "bench work" (i.e. electrical soldering, pneumatic hand tools, etc.). The Work Center is an important element in the continuum of care offered to veterans by the American GI Forum National Veterans Outreach Program, and it provides disabled veterans a means of recovery with pride and dignity.

Bihl Haus Arts (BHA), collaborating with Vet TRIIP, both located in San Antonio, Texas, has launched an innovative program offering professionally taught drawing and painting classes to veterans who are experiencing depression or are clinically or self-diagnosed with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The mission of Forward, Arts! is to offer veterans opportunities for healing, wellness and community through engagement in the arts.
The potential for healing that comes through hands-on, creative engagement with art-in this case, painting and drawing-is proven. While BHA’s pilot class is a pioneering endeavor in San Antonio, it emerged from national military initiatives in the arts and BHA’s nationally recognized arts program.

The MVPN offers free and confidential support groups for veterans, soldiers, and family members.
We also provide opportunities for veterans and families to find support through MVPN social events and volunteer opportunities and act as a guide to community resources through peer support services.

The Center assists active duty, retired, and veteran service members with The Military Veteran Peer Network Project. In addition to integrated health services, we train and team you with a "Battle Buddy," a veteran who provides peer-to-peer role support.
The Center and MVPN also work with the Texas Veteran Jail Diversion and Trauma Recovery Project (TVJDTR), training law enforcement on effective crisis intervention strategies when encountering a veteran experiencing the effects of mental illness.
The Transformational Campus provides residential housing while clients work to overcome the issues that led to their becoming homeless.

The Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) provides comprehensive support to Family members with special needs. EFMP takes an all-inclusive approach to coordinate military and civilian community, educational, medical, housing, and personnel services to help Soldiers and their Families with special needs.
An Exceptional Family Member is a Family member with any physical, emotional, developmental, or intellectual disorder that requires special treatment, therapy, education, training, or counseling, and meets the eligibility criteria.
Soldiers with Exceptional Family Members are required to register for EFMP and keep enrollment information current. This way, Family needs will be considered during the OCONUS assignments process.
If you’re eligible for EFMP services, Family members must be screened and enrolled when they accompany authorized Soldiers on OCONUS assignments. Screenings include medical records review for all Family members and developmental screening for all children aged 72 months and younger.

- Active Army
- U.S. Army Reserve (USAR) Soldiers in the Active Guard Reserve (AGR) Program
- Army National Guard (ARNG) AGR personnel serving under authority of 10 USC and 32 USC. Department of the Army civilian employees do not enroll in the program.
You must identify dependent children with special education and medically related service needs and Family members with medical needs each time they process for an assignment to a location outside the United States where Family member travel is authorized at government expense.

We provide clothing, shoes, and hygiene items to homeless veterans that are in need. We partner with the shelter for homeless veterans to help those that served our country. No veteran should be homeless after putting their lives on the line for their country.
We offer free financial literacy classes as preventative measures to reduce homelessness in our military population. The classes are designed to teach how money works, how to invest, and how to utilize VA home loans.

A Fisher House is "a home away from home" for families of patients receiving medical care at major military and VA medical centers. The homes are normally located within walking distance of the treatment facility or have transportation available.
All lodging fees for guest families at this house are paid through a grant from Fisher House Foundation.
Based at the Bexar County Courthouse, streamlines the service engagement process for domestic violence victims and perpetrators involved with the judiciary and legal system, CPS, and the military.
The HUD-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) program for homeless veterans combines Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) rental assistance with case management and clinical services provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) at VA medical centers and community-based outreach clinics.
Homeless veterans are screened by the VA and then referred to HABC.

Out of concern about highly stressed and vulnerable military families, United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County created Mission United, a military information and referral program, in November 2015. This program helps military and veteran families navigate the robust, but complex, array of community and military support programs.
