We have "Peer to Peer" Support where Vet helps Vets.

Our Veteran Peer Support Specialists have gone through at least two levels of training preparing them for effective Peer Support and Outreach work.

In addition to individual support contacts, our Veteran Program staff hold regular Peer Support Groups. Our program of individual support, advice and networking has proven to be extremely valuable and a Vet friendly source of mentorship and guidance.

The YES Waiver is a home and community based services waiver that allows for more flexibility in the funding of intensive community-based services to assist children and adolescents with severe emotional disturbances to live in the community with their families.

Goals:

  • Reducing out-of-home placements and inpatient psychiatric treatment by all child-serving agencies;
  • Providing a more complete continuum of community-based services and supports;
  • Ensuring families have access to parent partners and other flexible non-traditional support services as identified in a family-centered planning process;
  • Preventing entry into the foster care system and relinquishment of parental custody; and
  • Improving the clinical and functional outcomes of children and adolescents.

Services:

In addition to the services already offered under Camino Real Community Services' Children's Mental Health Program, the following are services of the YES Waiver:

  • Adaptive Aids and Supports
  • Community Living Supports
  • Family Supports
  • Minor Home Modifications
  • Non-Medical Transportation
  • Paraprofessional Services
  • Professional Services
  • Respite
  • Supportive Family Based Alternatives
  • Transitional Services

Camino Real Community Services will assess you for eligibility.

Demographic Criteria:

  • Be between 3 and 18 years of age;
  • Reside in Atascosa, Dimmit, Frio, Karnes, La Salle, Maverick, Mc Mullen, Wilson, or Zavala County; and
  • Reside in a non-institutional setting with the child's or adolescent's Legally Auhtorized Representative; or in the child's or adolescent's own home or apartment, if legally emancipated.

Clinical Criteria:

  • Have serious functional impairment or acute severe psychiatric symptoms as indicated by:
  • Risk of Self Harm
  • Disruptive or Aggressive Behavior
  • Family Supports
  • School Behavior
  • Current Diagnosis
  • There is a reasonable expectation that, without YES Waiver services, the child or adolescent would qualify for inpatient care.

Financial Criteria:

  • A child or adolescent must be eligible for Medicaid.

Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for AA membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions. AA is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy, neither endorses nor opposes any causes. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety.

Our mission is to offer healing and hope to children and families affected by abuse, abandonment, or neglect.

Our vision is for abused and neglected children to be empowered to grow up to be happy, productive, and caring adults.

Community-Based Care

Texas is implementing Community-Based Care (CBC) to improve the lives and outcomes of children in state care. CBC is a systems change and a new way of providing foster care and case management services. Key functions of the child welfare system shift from the state to contractors.

Within a geographic service area, a single source continuum contractor (SSCC) is responsible for finding foster homes for children in state care and, as the stages of service progress, providing them with a full continuum of services. Check out our video below or learn more here.

Our newest program CARE connects families with a certified parent educator that provides the support they need to move from surviving to thriving. CARE is a free program that is designed to assist parents through mentoring, support and education. CARE will help provide a positive support system, will teach problem solving skills, connect you with resources and much more! We believe supporting healthy families builds a healthy community.

Family Well-Being: PAT educators believe anyone that is anyone that is important to your child is important to us. We work hard to support families and promote healthy family relationships.

Development-Centered Parenting: When parents are familiar with their child’s developmental milestones, they are more likely to have appropriate expectations in regard to their child’s behaviors, actions and reactions. PAT educators are trained experts in developmental milestones from birth to kindergarten!

Positive Parent Child Interaction: During each home visit, a parent-child activity will take place that encourages positive parent-child interaction AND facilities learning. Because a child’s brain grows the fastest the first 5 years of life, consistent and positive engagement is key!

Any family with a child of any age.

Are you a foster, adoptive or kinship parent?

Do you feel alone or like your "normal" friends and family just don't understand?

Then come find your COMMUNITY! Our monthly support groups are a place to be encouraged and equipped alongside fellow foster, adoptive and kinship families.

Learn from our experienced leaders and fellow foster, adoptive and kinship parents as they discuss planned topics that will help you parent children from hard places. Also, enjoy the freedom to be honest with a group of other parents who can truly empathize. You will have the opportunity to connect with local resources and earn training hours if needed.

No family should walk this journey alone-we are better together.

Support groups are hosted throughout our area. All groups are open to any foster, adoptive or kinship family. Each group meets 10 times per year.

Please contact the support group coordinator for specific times and locations.

Warrior Groups are fellowships for combat veterans and their families to share their experiences, testimonies of healing, compassion, and hope in overcoming the invisible wounds of war.

This is not a treatment program, but rather a peer coaching and support program whose primary purpose is helping combat veterans find healing, balance, and positive re-integration with their families and in society.

Participants are required to be military combat veterans or family members of those who have served in combat and be willing to face the challenges of managing post-traumatic stress and related conditions.
