Green Beret Foundation (Community )

Recognizing gaps in immediate support to and in the continuity of care for injured Green Berets, Aaron Anderson, himself a Special Forces Warrior wounded in battle, founded the Green Beret Foundation in 2009.

For eleven years, the Foundation has grown significantly in terms of size, support from the community, and most importantly, in impact. We have provided direct assistance to nearly 13,000 Green Berets and their families as they navigate the challenges of their new lives, and have invested 87 cents of every dollar raised back to the Green Beret community.

While the GBF will continue to focus on our wounded, their families, and the families of our fallen, we are working to broaden our impact into addressing the needs of Green Berets as they transition back into civilian life.

Our Programs:

Wounded and Injured in the Line of Duty

When one of our Green Berets is wounded or injured in the line of duty, we send them and their family a $2,500 check and essential gear for a temporary hospital stay that is packed in a Special Forces-grade, durable, and versatile GORUCK GR1 backpack. These packs are generously donated by GORUCK, a Special Forces Veteran-owned business.

We ensure that key family members are at the soldier’s bedside. We provide financial support for family members’ travel not covered by the Army and support for other family needs such as child care, pet kenneling, and fuel cards. We will also help ship privately owned vehicles to the military treatment facility if required.

Casualty Support Process:

1. US Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) Care Coalition submits a Casualty Support request to the Green Beret Foundation.

2. Green Beret Foundation receives and reviews the request.

3. Green Beret Foundation sends a $2500 check in a rucksack filled with essential gear for a temporary hospital stay.

At the Green Beret Foundation, we know that one of the most important ways we can honor and assist our warriors is by giving their families a welcoming and supportive community.

Steel Mags Sisterhood

  • The wives, survivors, and caregivers of Green Berets are ‘the Quiet Professionals behind the Quiet Professionals,’ with needs as unique as those of their soldiers. The Steel Mags program, exclusive to the Green Beret Foundation, provides them with the unconditional support, access to critical resources, advocacy, and experienced guidance that they need to build successful and thriving lives for themselves and their families. As the wives, mothers, daughters, and sisters of Green Berets, the Steel Mags embody the warrior ethos as they face life’s challenges and adversity head-on.

How we Support

The Green Beret Foundation is dedicated to caring for our Gold Star and Surviving Families as they are revered members of our community. The final sacrifice of their Green Berets causes us to pause, reflect, and give thanks for the freedoms we hold so dear.

Our mission is to help the family navigate their difficult journey, give them the tools they need, and empower them to take control of their future. In the immediate wake of the Green Beret’s death, we offer financial assistance to help ease the burden of the expenses the family may incur during this time.

Long term, we strive to maintain relationships with the family and communicate with the Special Forces Groups to identify any gaps we may be able to fill. We will always honor our fallen and support their families.

Supporting the long-term health of a Green Beret's Mind, Body, and Spirit.

The long-term health of a Green Beret’s mind, body, and spirit is of the utmost importance to the Foundation. We supplement the care that the Military Health System (MHS) and Veterans Health Administration (VA) provide to ensure total wellness for the Green Beret.

Some examples of how we support our community:

  • Funded Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) for TBI and PTSD
  • Alpha-Stim®
  • Infrared Light Therapy
  • ChiliPad™
  • Neurofeedback
  • Laser Regeneration Therapy
  • Aphasia Therapy
  • Access to substance abuse treatment
  • Inpatient/Outpatient healthcare costs not covered by TRICARE or the Veterans Health Administration

Health and Wellness Support Process:

  1. A Green Beret, family member, or Care Coalition advocate contacts the Foundation to inform us of a need that has arisen in our community.
  2. We ensure the person is, in fact, a Green Beret and that the need is valid and not supported by the Veterans Administration.
  3. We require supporting documentation to communicate the scope and cost of the support required.
  4. We require supporting documentation to communicate the scope and cost of the support required.
  5. We require supporting documentation to communicate the scope and cost of the support required.
  6. We continuously engage with the Green Beret and his family to see if the support has been helpful and if other needs have arisen.

The Next Ridgeline

The Green Beret Foundation’s Next Ridgeline program recognizes that no two Green Berets are alike. So, to be effective, our program goals strive to provide a self-driven, individualized experience. This will allow each Green Beret to utilize the sources, networks, and opportunities that are unique as he is.

By leveraging a diverse group of veteran organizations that specifically work in select areas, the Next Ridgeline program will work to develop each Green Beret’s core capabilities, enhancing his performance in our focus areas and creating a superior individual who is prepared for transition into the civilian world.

VA Benefits and Claims Support

In late 2018, the Green Beret Foundation absorbed the formerly known OASIS Group, which provided the Special Operations community a comprehensive understanding of Veterans Affairs processes and systems to ensure fair and thorough evaluations of disability claims.

Our VA Benefits & Claims Program provides pre- and post-9/11 Green Berets:

  • Pre-transition briefings about Veterans Affairs benefits and processes for Green Berets and their loved ones.
  • Preparation, presentation, and prosecution of an original or updated VA Disability Claim.
  • Expert support to review current Military/Personnel Service Medical Records or Post-service VA Treatment records and locate any missing or archived documents as evidence to submit when filing your VA disability claim.
  • Assess previous service documentation or records for a condition or an injury that could have potentially led to a service connection: the in-service injury or diagnosis.
  • Vocational rehabilitation support and opportunities.
