The Ascension DePaul Services’s Head Start & Early Head Start programs provide comprehensive services to children, six weeks to five years of age, and their families, including full-day education services.

AGE ELIGIBILITY:
Head Start Program serves children six weeks to five years of age.

PRIORITY ELIGIBILITY:
Head Start eligibility is granted, if your family meets any of the following categories:

  • The child to be enrolled is in foster care
  • The family is receiving benefits or services through the TANF Program
  • A family member living with and supported by you is receiving Supplemental Security Income benefits (SSI)
  • The family is homeless
  • Children with a disability, including a severe disability Income eligibility requirements for Head Start may be waived, if your child has a current Individualized Education Plan (IEP), or a current Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP).

Head Start is a national program that promotes school readiness by enhancing the social and cognitive development of children by providing educational, health, nutritional, social, and other services to enrolled children and families.

Head Start Program serves children six weeks to five years of age.

Child care is provided in a developmentally appropriate safe and nurturing environment while you work or attend school.

In addition, two nutritionally balanced meals and a snack daily are served.

The After School Program picks up children at their schools and transports them to our facility. We provide a safe environment, a nutritious snack, and homework assistance.

In addition, the children have the opportunity for outdoor recreation, and they are exposed to topics and experiences that have disappeared from the regular class curriculum, such as music, art and building projects.

Children 6 weeks to 12 years old.

When coming in for services, please bring a valid photo ID (Driver's License, etc.) and proof of residency (utility bill, car insurance, etc.).

Tuition assistance may be available based on household income and size. CCS accepted.

Community Counselors help people who are uninsured, whose existing coverage does not provide mental health services benefits, are low-income and lack the money to pay for counseling services, or who would not receive treatment any other way. Counseling services are provided by trained, licensed professional counselors, licensed clinical social workers, and licensed marriage and family counselors. Sessions are private and conducted in a safe and familiar environment such as churches and community centers.

The first meeting with a counselor is free. A modest fee based on a sliding fee scale is collected for each follow-up session; however, no one is denied service because they cannot pay.

Community Health Workers, or Promotores de Salud, increase wellness by reaching out to, connecting with, and engaging underserved families and communities to help improve health outcomes for themselves, their families, and the communities in which they live.

Methodist Healthcare Ministries' Community Health Workers are certified by the Texas Department of State Health (DSHS).

Services include:

  • Establishing positive, trusting relationships with community residents in or from underserved communities.
  • Helping patients/clients, families, and underserved communities overcome barriers in language and culture to better connect to quality health care services and resources.
  • Connecting underserved populations to health care services and resources.
  • Providing informal counseling, support, and follow-up home visits for patients/patients.
  • Aiding in the creation and maintenance of community partnerships, collaborations, programs, and services.

  • Help navigating public assistance programs like Medicare, Medicaid, SSI, Care Link, food stamps and child care.
  • Clothing assistance.
  • Food assistance through our in-house food pantry.
  • Limited monetary assistance with utilities in emergency situations.

Through San Antonio Food Bank’s Project H.O.P.E. commodity program we distribute free groceries to persons aged 60 or older who meet financial eligibility criteria.
