PFLAG is working to make sure that all people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer are not only valued by society, but take pride in and value themselves. We do this by providing peer-to-peer support, educating people on the issues that are important to the community, and advocating for inclusive policies and laws.

LOVING FAMILIES

Family support and acceptance are critical to the health and wellbeing of people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer...and PFLAG has been at the forefront of this work for over four decades. Find out more about how we have been supporting thousands of families across the country and around the world, and the ways in which we can provide that support to your family.

SAFE COMMUNITIES

People who are LGBTQ and their families deserve to be safe and secure, no matter where they live, work, study, pray or play. Through our mission of support, education, and advocacy, PFLAG works to make sure that all communities provide this type of security, and have the resources needed to help those communities thrive.

DIVERSE AND INCLUSIVE WORLD

Trauma doesn't just affect an individual. Its aftershocks can be felt years after as new relationships can bring triggering reminders of past hurts. Past hurts can impact an entire family as they interfere with trust, connection, and even the ability to enjoy everyday activities. Providing a space for healing within a marriage and/or family is a critical piece of recovery that allows everyone to move forward into true healing.

Family therapy, also known as family counseling, is a form of psychotherapy that aims to assist members of a family to address issues affecting them as a whole. With Innova Recovery, families can be closer, learn to communicate better, and understand how to work together when conflicts arise in the future.

Familial bonds are one of the strongest, if not the strongest, connections an individual can have with another. But while these bonds are special, they can still be affected by various family-related problems and misunderstandings. Family counseling helps mend this relationship between family members so it can be strong and healthy again. Compared to individual therapy, where the focus is placed on an individual's struggles, the focus of family therapy is on the people within a family unit.

Family counseling allows a family that is experiencing troubles to come together in a neutral space and address the issues at hand with a family therapist. The source of the conflicts is varied but well-known, often ranging from financial problems to communication difficulties between parents and their children. These conflicts worsen because family members are unable to share, understand, process, or cope with the situation. With Innova Recovery, families can:

  • Explore how they can resolve family issues in a forward-moving way and share what they feel and think in a productive manner
  • Explore elements of the family to understand the issues that start or add to their conflict, and then discuss how to get through them
  • Explore and enumerate the strengths and weaknesses of the family

Family counseling is often done alongside other mental health treatments. This happens when one family member is trying to recover from substance abuse or has a mental illness and everyone else wants to better understand what their relative, sibling, parent, or child is going through. Family therapy can help prevent a condition or addiction of the affected individual from getting worse by increasing the awareness of every family member.

We offer an authentic level of care that is ideal for adolescents who need regular therapeutic support. Day treatment is excellent for those who do not want to skip school or miss out on having fun with friends and family.

Day Treatment for Teens is an evidence-based program designed solely for kids struggling with social challenges due to their mental health issues. It can be done after school or during vacation days, both of which allow for longer and more consistent hours for guided therapy.

Our program will allow your teens to learn and grow in an environment that is inclusive and non-judgemental. Through our empirically proven therapies, we will equip your adolescents with the right tools to handle their past traumas as well as navigate school and relationship challenges.

They will learn:

  • How to form strong social bonds with their family, friends, and peers.
  • Strategies to better understand themselves and their emotions.
  • Methods that will help them stay productive and not just busy.
  • Ways to manage their emotions and behavior to reduce how badly certain mental health-related symptoms will affect them.
  • How to communicate well with others, especially with those who want to help them.

If you feel your teenager is not making any progress therapy-wise, you should consider having their teens join our program. Day Treatment for Teens can be recommended for many reasons, including:

  • Your teen feels life is a constant struggle, especially when they are in a social situation in school.
  • Previous therapy sessions do not seem to be helping or are no longer effective for, your teenager.
  • A mental health diagnosis was made and the therapist believes group-based day treatment will be better than individual therapy.

Innova's IOP for teens meets teens where they are to provide them with the support they need to survive adolescence. Graduates of our Teen IOP have increased communication skills, ability to handle stress, and greater emotion regulation, making them more prepared for young adulthood.

We use empirically proven highly skills-based therapies.
These skills will equip your teen with the skills they need to cope with the pain they have experienced in the past, while successfully navigating present-day challenges in relationships and school.

  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
Provides practical life skills for dealing with emotions, setting boundaries, having difficult conversations, and downregulating when life becomes overwhelming.
  • Substance Abuse (Seeking Safety)
Identifies the ways one uses drugs, alcohol, and other substances as a means of coping with life's difficulties and offers alternative means of coping.
  • Relationship Effectiveness
