Child Care near

San Antonio Community Resource Directory

Workforce Solutions Alamo (WSA) Child Care Services (CCS) provides subsidized childcare assistance to eligible families.

Enrollment in the childcare program is subject to the availability of funds. Because the need for child care services is so great in our community, we currently maintain a list of families interested in enrolling in the childcare program. At any time, parents may call our office to check on the status of enrollment.

You may be eligible if you answer yes to the following three (3) questions:

1. Are you a resident of one of the following counties? (Atascosa, Bandera, Bexar, Comal, Frio, Gillespie, Guadalupe, Kendall, Kerr, Karnes, Medina, McMullen, Wilson)

2. Are you:

  • A single parent working or in training/school at least twenty-five (25) hours per week?  or
  • A two-parent household with both parents working or in training/school, with each parent averaging twenty-five (25) hours per week?

Note: Until September 30, 2022: Families who do not meet these minimum activity requirements but who are otherwise eligible shall qualify for child care while searching for work that will qualify them.

  • After three months, if the family still does not meet the minimum activity requirements, care will be terminated.
  • If employment participation requirements are met within three months, eligibility will continue for a total of 12 months, inclusive of the three-month initial job search period.

3. Is your average gross monthly/yearly income at or below the amounts listed on the chart by family size (parents plus children)? Click here and scroll down to the family income table.

If you answered yes to the eligibility questions, click here to complete the online Waitlist Application. (You can also request a paper version by calling Child Care Services at (210) 230-6300.)

Families who receive CCS assistance may be required to pay a portion of their cost of care. The family’s share of cost will be based on a sliding fee scale, the family's gross monthly income, and family size.

In order to address the impacts of COVID-19 and to support Texas’ continued economic recovery, the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) is implementing a Service Industry Recovery (SIR) child care program to help low-wage workers in TWC-specified service industries who generally operate in close quarters with their customers and whose jobs cannot be accomplished remotely.

Highlights of the SIR program:

  • 12 months of eligibility
  • $0 parent share of cost
  • Less required eligibility documentation

(While TWC is targeting aspects of the service sector with SIR child care, all families continue to have access to TWC’s regular low-income child care subsidy program.)

Eligibility Requirements:

At least one parent must be currently employed or entering employment in one of the following TWC-specified service industries:

One-parent households must be working a minimum of 25 hours per week and a two-parent household must be working a total of 50 hours per week to qualify.

The family income is at or below 75 percent of State Median Income (SMI). To see if you meet this requirement, click here and scroll down to the family income table.
