The Ventanilla program represents a new integral part of service delivery at the Mexican Consulate and provides Mexican immigrants who are new to the U.S. financial system with access to vital resources for getting banked, gaining access to free tax preparation and the Earned Income Tax Credit, establishing credit and building a secure financial future within the trusted and culturally relevant setting of the Consulate strengthening the financial stability of immigrant households by embedding financial empowerment strategies into local and intergovernmental infrastructure.

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) provides the following free tax preparation services:
- 2018 - 2021 Tax Preparation
- 1040X Amended Tax Returns (regardless of the location where initially prepared )
- Free W-7 application assistance for the Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN)
What to bring to receive free tax filing:
- Original photo identification
- Original Social Security Number card
- All tax documents including W-2s, 1099R’s, SSA-1099, 1099Misc, 1095A, bank interest, or dividend forms
- Completed intake forms in English or Spanish
Completed tax forms and original documents will be returned within 48-72 hours.
- Must have earned $55,000 or less in the reporting year.
- If filing jointly, both spouses must be present at the time of drop-off.
All VITA tax preprarations are free.
Free tax preparation for individuals who earn up to $55,000 annually within 72 hours.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING TO A VITA SITE?

- Driver's License or Photo I.D.
- Social Security Card or Individual Tax Identification Number (ITIN) for all members in your family
- W-2 Forms
If filing jointly, your spouse must be present Copy of prior year tax return (if applicable)
- 1099 Forms (if applicable)
- 1099-G Unemployment Benefits
- 1099-INT Interest from your bank
- 1099-R Pensions, Annuities, Retirement Plans
- Account Numbers for electronic deposit of refund
WHEN TO EXPECT A REFUND?
All VITA tax returns are prepared and submitted to the IRS electronically by Coalition volunteers. If you will be receiving a refund, you can anticipate receiving a check in seven to ten days business days.
- Must have earned $55,000 or less in the reporting year.
- If filing jointly, both spouses must be present at the time of drop-off.
