Youth 18-24 years old

Updated within the last 1 month.

Fiesta Youth is proud to provide a facilitator lead course for free to any business, school, or organization that believes in inclusion and create awareness of how we all can work together in solidarity.

Our condensed hour and a half training is customized to help educate organizations and businesses who are seeking to create a more inclusive environment.

The training is facilitated by our certified instructors who constructed the course to include confronting implicit bias, stereotypes, and preconceived ideas of the LGBTQ+ community. This dialogue allows for a brave space where all those participating can contribute their prior knowledge of queer identity and address questions or concerns for possible environment specific scenarios. Throughout the training we will cover core vocabulary, current up to date terminology, language inclusion, the process of coming out, how not to out people, and go over what it means to be an ally in and outside the workplace.

While the training emphasizes situations with queer youth and teens in an effort to create a more comfortable and inclusive LGBTQ+ environment that represents all communities and offers a greater understanding of our youth, it also applies to the entire LGBTQ+ community. When we can share knowledge we can break barriers and continue to build safer communities.

If interested please email us at [email protected]

Provide: Contact name, email address, business, organization, or school name, contact phone number, and number of people that would be attending the session. Please provide at least 1 month lead time in order for us to schedule the session in advance.

The Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) program is a voluntary five-year incentive program that allows Housing Choice Voucher and Public Housing residents to accrue money in an escrow account as their earned income increases, allowing participants to become self-sufficient. Any increases in the family’s rent as a result of increased earned income during the family’s participation in the program results in a credit to the family’s escrow account. Once a family successfully graduates from the program, they may access the escrow and use it for any purpose. The FSS program does not affect eligibility for continued housing.

Upon successful completion of the FSS program, the escrow money saved can be used for any financial or educational goal the participant chooses. While completing homeownership and credit counseling classes may be required goals, the main purpose of the FSS program is to educate and transition FSS participants towards economic independence and financial empowerment.

The FSS Coordinator works with FSS participants in creating a plan to meet both individual and program goals. In conjunction with community partners, participants will be assisted with the tools needed to become self-sufficient, including but not limited to:

  • Job Skills Training
  • Employment counseling
  • Educational and scholarship opportunities
  • Homeownership classes and counseling
  • Financial literacy classes and counseling

All Bexar County residents receiving assistance through the Housing Authority of Bexar County’s (HABC) Housing Choice Voucher or Public Housing programs are eligible to participate in the FSS program, including all adult family members. As the requirement of the program dictates, only earned wages are calculated for the escrow incentive.

Peer Learning Cohorts

Select nonprofits work together for 36 months to become more efficient and effective leaders so their organizations operate at peak performance.

Each year, our Capacity Building Program forms a Peer Learning Cohort consisting of select nonprofits that agree to work together for 36 months at becoming more efficient, effective, and cooperative. They dig deep on leadership development, continuous learning processes, managing, planning, oversight, and generating resources. The goal: to help vital nonprofits operate at peak performance.

The organizations involved represent a breadth of services being offered in San Antonio, from after-school activities to distressed housing restoration to mental health support and more. Each nonprofit is provided with an external assessment using the Impact Capacity Assessment Tool (iCAT), which helps orient them to the work ahead. In the first year, cohort members meet on five occasions, connecting through peer learning opportunities, and creating the potential for lasting collaborations that can benefit communities for years to come.

Started in 1995 and operating out of a house in San Antonio’s Westside, the MujerArtes Women’s Clay Cooperative has been among Esperanza’s groundbreaking programs for 24 years. MujerArtes draws thousands of visitors to their exhibits and studio each year, holding exhibits at the studio, Esperanza gallery and community venues including art fairs, schools, and libraries throughout the city year round. Annual exhibits include Peace Market, Mother’s Day, Día de la Virgen, Dia de los Muertos, and others.

At the MujerArtes studio the women, with the guidance of experienced ceramicists, shape the clay into historic snapshots of their lives as workers, heads of households and marginalized women in a country where they have always had to struggle. International artists/cooperatives Irene Aguilar, Enedina Vasquez, Taller Leñateros and Domitila Dominguez are invited for annual cultural exchanges.Through cooperative efforts, the women create an environment where each woman is a teacher and student by way of their creativity and cultural experiences.

For 24 years, our women’s clay cooperative has facilitated the cultural grounding of low-income women in San Antonio’s Westside through clay workshops 5 days a week and over 5 exhibits annually. We have witnessed the growth of women, many of whom have never received formal artistic training, resulting in a diverse group of talented and accomplished artists.
