Bereavement and grief aren’t light-hearted topics. Bereavement refers to the process of recovering from the death of a loved one, and grief is a reaction to any form of loss. Both encompass a wide range of emotions such as fear, anger, and deep, deep sadness.

The process of adapting to a loss can dramatically change from person to person, depending on his or her background, beliefs, relationship with the person who’s passed, and other factors.

Common symptoms of grief can be physical, emotional, or social.

Every grieving experience is different. A person may be able to continue their day-to-day routine after one loss, yet not be able to get out of bed after the loss of someone else. Whatever your symptoms are, grief and bereavement counseling have been proven to help.

If you are experiencing grief-related thoughts, behaviors, or feelings that are distressing, please contact me today for a free consultation.

Life After Loss is a program of The Ecumenical Center designed to help people better understand the process of grief and how to live through it in a way that is healing. It provides a place to share experiences and to support one other. Each six-week session is a combination of teaching, discussion, and learning activities. Led by trained facilitators with knowledge of bereavement and grief support.

Sessions cover the physical, emotional, spiritual and social implications of grief; the process of grief; memories and how to use them to heal; how to take care of yourself while you grieve; holidays and anniversary dates and planning for the future. Attending all six sessions is most beneficial, therefore no new participants are accepted after the second session.

The sessions are open to those who have experienced the loss of a loved one.

Hospice Care

The patient’s wishes are a primary concern during hospice care. For some, the ability to manage symptoms at home and reduce hospital visits may be a priority. Others may prioritize reducing the burden on family caregivers or remaining in a family home. The goal of Three Oaks Hospice is to always accommodate the wishes of the patient and family.

Hospice Care at Home

In-home hospice care focuses on caring for patients’ needs in their chosen environment. Often, this is the patient’s home, but it doesn’t have to be. For example, a hospice team can provide care to a patient in the homes of family members, an assisted living facility, or a nursing home.

Individuals with renal disease, neurological diseases, dementia, pulmonary disease, heart disease, AIDS, or cancer may qualify for hospice.

Three Oaks Hospice provides tailored care for individuals with these and other conditions.
