Family, economic, marital, health, and occupational stressors at times produce significant impairment in a person’s ability to cope with the demands of everyday life. When this happens, our normal problem-solving skills become overwhelmed and our mental health is compromised.

Our array of services is designed to help you manage your stressors and return to your optimal level of performance.

The counselor gathers information about your concerns, conducting a brief mental status exam, establishes a provisional diagnosis, and suggests a plan of treatment, which may include referring you to other agencies in the community.

Our mental health services focus on the prevention, screening, assessment, and treatment of mental disorders and behavioral conditions. We aim to improve health and quality of life for people affected by these conditions. In addition, mental health and physical health are closely connected. Mental disorders like depression and anxiety can affect a person’s ability to take part in healthy behaviors. Similarly, physical health problems can make it harder for people to get treatment for mental disorders. That is why our medical and mental/behavioral health teams work closely together to improve our patient’s overall health and well-being. We care for the entire person.

Mental and Behavioral Health services include:

  • Mental and Behavioral Health care for the entire family

Click here for a list of resources to help you cope following the Uvalde tragedy, compiled by the National Child Traumatic Stress Network.

Currently, three ways you can be the greatest help are:

STAY PUT.

The urge to rush to the scene of a tragedy to offer help and support is natural, but such well-intentioned help can place extra stress on the professional response personnel already there. Please do not go to Uvalde unless specifically invited. Instead, consider one of the following options.

GIVE BLOOD.

Blood for those wounded in the shooting remains a need.

  • Click here to find a South Texas Blood and Tissue Center location near you, or
  • Call (210) 358-2812 to make an appointment to donate at one of University Health System's 21 sites.

MAKE A FINANCIAL DONATION.

Uvalde Strong Survivors Fund will provide direct financial assistance to the survivors of the deceased and those directly affected by this tragedy. One hundred percent (100%) of the contributions donated to this fund will go directly to victims and survivors of this atrocity in partnership with the National Compassion Fund. Charitable donations to this fund are fully tax-deductible. Click here to donate to the Uvalde Strong Survivors Fund.

Uvalde Strong Fund is an emergency relief fund to support area nonprofits that will provide long-term assistance, including mental health services, in the Uvalde community. Charitable donations to this fund are fully tax-deductible. Click here to donate to the Uvalde Strong Fund.

Robb School Memorial Fund is an account at First State Bank of Uvalde for the families of Robb Elementary. To donate:

  • Go to any FSB branch.
  • Write a check. Make checks payable to "Robb School Memorial Fund" and mail them to 200 E Nopal St. Uvalde, TX 78801.)
  • For Zelle donations: [email protected]

At Children's Bereavement Center of South Texas, we are dedicated to providing support to families when they need us most. Our work serving grieving children and families will be long-lasting. Donations will support the Center's grief work in that community.

Our hearts are with Uvalde.
