School Closures

Most Bexar County public schools are closed Thursday. Some universities are holding classes remotely. Check back for information about Friday.

What condition are the roads in?

Police and Public Works are prepared to activate the City's Ice Plan in coordination with TxDOT when frozen precipitation occurs. TxDOT crews are pre-treating roadways, direct connectors, and highways throughout the city.

Where can I go to get out of the cold?

Warming centers are open around San Antonio and Bexar County. Check the Resources tab above for locations.

What is happening to unsheltered people during the storm?

The City's Department of Human Services has been working with nonprofit partners to prepare overnight shelters and meals for the unsheltered population. The Human Services Department will also assist with transportation to the shelters. Check the Resources tab above for specific locations. You can also call the Homeless Connections Hotline at (210) 207-1799.

Will the electricity stay on?

CPS Energy crews are prepared to respond to any outages and will provide customers with important updates. CPS Energy generating units and teams are prepared for the anticipated winter weather. Since Winter Storm Uri, CPS Energy has strengthened the resiliency of power plants against sustained freezing temperatures. CPS Energy does not anticipate state-mandated outages, but as always, energy conservation is important to help customers save on their monthly bills.

Will SAWS continue service?

No weather impact is expected to SAWS pipes and equipment.

Are VIA buses running?

VIA Metropolitan Transit Offices and Transit Centers will be open for regular business hours and bus, VIATrans, and VIA Link services will continue to operate as long as it is safe to do so. Check VIAinfo.net for more information.

Homeless Connections Hotline provides assistance for people experiencing homelessness or at risk of becoming homeless.

The Denver Heights Community Center is an open play center with an indoor gym and two game rooms. Half-court basketball is scheduled daily. Table games and a ping pong table are available.

The Harlandale Community Center offers a wide variety of programming, including youth sports leagues, arts and crafts, table games, nutrition education, dance, music, and more.

Alcohol is prohibited. Amenities are first come, first serve with some exceptions.
