More than 21 million Americans cope with mood disorders annually. Every dollar we receive helps us to assist someone on their road to wellness.
Every year, one in five Americans experiences a serious emotional crisis. In fact, mental health conditions are more prevalent than cancer, lung disease, and heart disease combined, leading the U.S. Surgeon General to declare mental illness one of our nation’s leading public health issues. Mood disorders are indiscriminate, affecting people of all ages, races, ethnic groups, and social classes.

Habitat for Humanity Ministry works to give a hand-up (not a hand-out) to a hardworking family in need of a decent, affordable home by providing the sponsorship, funds, and volunteers to actually help a family build their new home. The family purchases the home for a fair price secured by a no-interest, no-profit mortgage.
This Ministry raises funds for the construction cost of a Habitat House and enlists volunteers for the construction, telephoning, providing snacks/drinks/meals for the construction volunteers, and parish volunteers to pray for the project's success and the construction volunteers' safety.
Everyone can play a role and view with pride the progress of the house being built and then see the finished home and a happy family. Habitat selects the family for Humanity of San Antonio after a rigorous process, which helps ensure that the family can afford the home's mortgage and upkeep. Volunteer opportunity activities range from a few minutes to a day or more at the construction site.
For more information, contact Felipe Jimenez at 210-827-5215 or [email protected].

The mission of this ministry is to provide support and hope in the power of prayer through the distribution of special prayer blankets to those who are very sick and/or hospitalized, to ICU, cancer, and children patients at Santa Rosa Hospital, to military family members (U.S. and abroad), to the elderly homebound of our parish, and many different community organizations.
Volunteers pray the rosary and offer prayer intentions for the recipients as the blankets are made. No sewing is required. This ministry is a parish-wide service opportunity.

Be A Hospice Volunteer!
Today there are almost 500,000 caring individuals serving as hospice volunteers across the United States. Serving as valued members of the hospice care team, volunteers enhance the patient and family experience by helping meet specific needs. Volunteers give their time and compassion to patients and families dealing with end-of-life care needs as well as assisting with administrative office needs and bereavement support. Alamo Hospice relies on our volunteers to assist us in delivering exceptional end-of-life care.
Volunteers range in age from teens to senior citizens. Some volunteers come to hospice as part of their high school or college course requirements. Some individuals experienced the benefits of hospice through the loss of a loved one and now want to give back through serving others during this difficult time. Some volunteers have professional skills or specialized expertise, but most are just empathetic people who want to help and serve their community.
Hospice volunteers can dedicate as little or as much time as they wish. Some volunteers donate several hours each week while others commit to a few hours each month. Some hospice volunteers prefer to offer services on an as-needed basis. All volunteers will have the opportunity to schedule a one-on-one discussion with our Volunteer Coordinator to discuss their interests and availability.
All volunteer candidates must pass a drug and background check prior to beginning service with our organization. Our agency will cover the cost of both the drug test and the background check.
For more information on volunteering, or do fill out the contact form, click here.
Ready to make a difference? You’ve come to the right place!

The Meals on Wheels San Antonio Friendly Visitor Program is a volunteer-based program where the goal is to provide companionship and a meaningful friendship to a homebound citizen in Bexar County. Friendly Visitors are matched with a homebound senior based on similar interests, availability, and gender preference. Friendly Visitor volunteers can visit in-person with a homebound senior and do things such as play games, take a walk, or chat over coffee or tea. The volunteer could also call the client every week to chat about how they are doing. This position is great for individuals who have a heart for helping out others and who would love to spend some free time with a person who needs a Friendly Visitor. Too often, seniors who are no longer able to leave their homes can start to feel isolated, lonely and depressed, which may worsen existing health conditions.
Friendly Visitor volunteers help to alleviate concerns by visiting a homebound senior to provide much needed companionship. Just a simple conversation can make all the difference to lonely person.
Volunteers interested in becoming a Friendly Visitor must:
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Pass a criminal and sex offender background check
- Complete a one-hour training/orientation
- Be a little flexible to care recipients' need for quality time
- Be able to relate in a positive and warm manner to older adults
Friendly Visitor volunteers are matched with older adults based on personality and interest, so that a bond can easily be developed. Once paired, volunteers are expected to provide friendship and conversation. In some cases, Friendly Visitors offer minor assistance where appropriate (e.g. walks in the neighborhood, computer assistance, etc.).
For more information about receiving services, or to volunteer, please contact Friendly Volunteer Coordinator, Jillian Huskin by email or call 210-735-5115.
Any Meals on Wheels client who is in need of companionship services, may be suffering from depression, or has experienced the loss of a loved one, may be eligible for service.
