Volunteer and Support Opportunities near

San Antonio Community Resource Directory

Sidewalks, Inc. builds sidewalks in the City of San Antonio, Texas, through a cooperative effort of volunteers and donations of money and material resources. It began its work in 2006. The intention is to increase mobility within neighborhoods that have long suffered from the lack of infrastructure or dilapidated infrastructure.

Sidewalks are built in front of homes where residents are of low or moderate income. To date,10 sidewalk projects have been completed, all benefiting someone who is eldery or disabled/physically challenged, near a bus route and near an elementary school.

Projects selected must meet more than one of the following priorities:

  • In front of homes of people who are disabled/physically challenged
  • In front of homes of the elderly
  • On bus lines
  • Near Schools
  • On routes from residential neighborhood to commercial resources

All sidewalks are built within the requirements on permitting of the Unified Development Code of the City of San Antonio. Sidewalks, Inc. sees itself as a “Friend of The Public Works Department of the City of San Antonio”. The immediate focus is on sidewalks in length of about 50 feet, which is the standard size of a lot. Sidewalks, Inc. is a non-profit and funding is limited, therefore not all applications submitted are guaranteed a sidewalk.

Volunteer:

Inner City is based on volunteerism and depends on volunteer staff to run all of its programs as well as maintain facilities. Volunteers are needed to coach teams, supervise youth programs, stock the food pantry, provide social services counseling, organize fundraising activities and even to maintain the grounds and facilities. If you would like to become involved, please take a look at our programs and contact the staff at Inner City to discuss how to best utilize your talents.

Volunteer House:

For those looking for a more intensive volunteer experience, Inner City has a select number of rooms available at the adjacent volunteer house. This experience is intended for those ready to commit a significant portion of their time to service on the volunteer staff at Inner City and provides room and board in exchange for 15 hours of weekly volunteer service at the organization.

Donate:

Inner City receives its financial support mainly through the generosity of individual donations. While ICD is not church or government affiliated, it does receive some financial support from a variety of churches. Some local businesses and foundations have also been very generous to ICD. Inner City is a 501 c 3 nonprofit. All donations are tax deductible.

Volunteering, at its heart, is the principle of donating time and energy for the benefit of other people in our community as a social responsibility rather than for any financial reward.

Lives are changed and communities are strengthened when we come together and bring our resources to serve those in need. We can't do this without you.

To learn of the different programs and how to volunteer for each one, please click the Apply Now and select the program of interest.

Each Spring Break and summer, over 900 middle school and high school aged students participate in one of Blueprint's week long mission camps.  Groups come together from Texas and around the U.S. to serve. These volunteers share the love of Jesus Christ and transform homeowners' lives through their hard work.  Blueprint's desire is for students to return home with a passion for living a missional lifestyle and to continue serving those around them.  We'd love to serve alongside you.

Teams of youth and adults work at inner-city homes during the day and share in worship together in the evenings. Blueprint provides all lodging, food, tools, materials and programming during camp. One of our goals is for the youth leader and adult volunteers to be able to spend time getting to know their students instead of worrying about the logistics of the trip.

Blueprint strives to build up servant leaders through the camp experience.  We exist to share Christ’s love through the restoration of homes in urban San Antonio.

We are looking for college-aged men and women who want to share Christ’s extravagant hope, love, and grace with both San Antonio homeowners and campers. Each position is demanding as you will be stretched mentally, physically, and spiritually. However, the camp experience is extremely fulfilling as you share the love of Jesus Christ with campers and homeowners, grow in your faith, and develop lifelong relationships with fellow team members and campers.

Our summer staff roles include compensation, housing on-site, help with gas money, and meals during camp.
