The Boys and Girls Clubs of San Antonio changes lives through high-quality afterschool and summer programs in a safe, affordable, and fun environment.
Afterschool Programming
BGCSA offers a weekday Afterschool Program for kids all through the school year! Our Clubhouses are open weekdays, 3:00 PM – 6:30 PM, making it an easy choice for parents. The daily schedule begins with Power Hour™, an hour dedicated to homework help and completion.
Kids then rotate through age-appropriate activities! Kids will be able to enjoy gym and playground time, sports practices, reading or math tutoring, fine arts, and more! Our preteens and teenagers have more guided activities, such as college visits, career skills building, driving simulations, and leadership and community-service-focused clubs.
BGCSA offers more support by offering transportation to Clubhouse locations. Snacks and/or meals are also provided to all kids before they head home.

Similar to our Afterschool Program, youth are engaged in age-appropriate activities focused on curbing the summer learning loss, building character, and forming healthy habits.
Additionally, kids get to attend Club-sponsored field trips to indoor swimming pools, local businesses, outdoor parks, and community attractions. Have no fear parents, kids won’t come home hungry! Healthy and balanced meals and snacks are provided throughout the day during summer programs.

In the Spring of 2022 our Children’s Cancer Support Center opened it’s doors to address this problem directly by providing special programming that offers cancer support groups, bereavement support groups, educational workshops, health and wellness support, resources and referrals as well as social activities for families. It’s the city’s first cancer support center exclusively for children.
Our programs are designed to empower parents by providing them with the tools necessary to improve their social connections, give them sense of control and provide a holistic approach to help them navigate their child’s cancer diagnosis. We believe that this will improve the lives and the health and wellness of both the body and mind.
We know that it takes a community to overcome the challenges that come with a childhood cancer diagnosis. For families that are feeling alone or isolated due to their child’s diagnosis, we believe that they will find the support they need when they come to the Children’s Cancer Support Center.
The Children’s Cancer Support Center provides resources and support for families that have a child diagnosed with cancer by taking a holistic approach to help in all areas including mental and social factors affecting the entire family.
Programs offered at the center include the following:
- Mental Health Support Services - support and networking groups for cancer families and bereaved cancer families
- Resources & Referrals - connecting members to other services in the community
- Health and wellness programs- through strategic partnerships with the community
- Educational Workshops - presentations by experts in their field
- Social Activities - fun social events for children and their families
- Financial Assiatnce-Financial assistance may be available for families who have a child undergoing active treatment.
Calendar of events can be viewed here.

Health Services South San Antonio ISD Head Start plays an important role in promoting the health and safety of children by helping them to establish lifelong healthy patterns. Healthy students are better learners, and academic achievement bears a lifetime of benefits for health.
Our Head Start program staff ensure that our children are up to date on immunizations, their state’s Early and Periodic Screening Diagnosis and Treatment (EPSDT) schedule, and learn healthy eating habits. The program also promotes the physical, social, and emotional well-being of children and their families. Staff members work diligently to assist families in finding and engaging quality medical and dental care, including in some cases access to affordable-to-no-cost community resources.
