Thrive Youth Center has been a safe, supportive, and encouraging space for all LGBTQ+ young adults recovering from the hardships
of homelessness since 2015. Our housing program is funded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development and allows us to house 45 young adults each year in apartments of their choosing throughout the San Antonio area.

The Advanced Learning Academy (ALA) at Fox Tech is a 4th - 12th Grade campus in the San Antonio Independent School District.

By using the broader community as its classroom, ALA leads in transforming the education model. If there are fewer applications than seats available, no lottery is conducted and all students are accepted.  If there are more applications than available seats, a lottery is conducted, offers are made for the number of seats available, and the remaining students are waitlisted.  

ALA employs design thinking as a major pillar of its educational philosophy, which uses empathy to understand the needs of real people and understands that problems seldom have one perfect solution.

ALA offers college prep opportunities like AP and dual-credit courses, and extracurricular programs like newspaper, gardening, and art.

CAST TECH is a partnership school co-created with San Antonio ISD and the CAST Schools Network. Higher education partners include San Antonio College and the University of Texas at San Antonio.

CAST TECH works hand-in-hand with industry partners to prepare students for careers in technology and business, fields where the demand is high for talented workers.

CAST TECH uses computer-based learning to allow students to progress more quickly in areas where they have mastered concepts, allowing them to dive more deeply into projects and areas of great interest. 

Students enrolled in CAST TECH will follow one of three pathways:

• User experience (UX)

CAST Schools are tuition-free and open to students across the greater San Antonio region who are entering 9th or 10th grade. Our small class sizes provide our educators with the opportunity to meet students where they are and co-create a plan for future success.

College coursework is embedded in the program, and students can earn up to two years of college credit, industry certifications, and portfolios that feature long-term projects and other examples of their work.

The San Antonio Fatherhood Campaign knows that encouraging men and fathers to become better role models and parents must come with equipping them with the essential tools to succeed in Fatherhood. The Campaign offers a variety of classes and workshops not just on parenting but on a wide range of issues relating to today’s needs to become a well-rounded parent and responsible father. Healthy Relationships is a multisession, small-group, skills-building program for men and women living with HIV/AIDS. The program is designed to reduce participants’ stress related to safer sexual behaviors and disclosure of their serostatus to family, friends, and sex partners. The program is based on social cognitive theory, which states that people learn by observing others successfully practicing new behavior.

• Defining stress and reinforcing coping skills with HIV-positive people across three life areas:

• Disclosing to family and friends
• Disclosing to sex partners and
• Building healthier and safer relationships

• Using modeling, role-play, and feedback to teach and practice skills related to coping with stress.
• Teaching decision-making skills around the issue of disclosure of HIV status.
• We provide participants with personal feedback reports to motivate a change in risky behaviors and continuance of protective behaviors.
• We use popular movie clips to set up disclosure and risk-reduction scenarios to stimulate discussions and role-plays.

Case Managers direct families to many Any Baby Can program and help link families to many local and state programs. All Any Baby Can services are offered at no cost - regardless of income - to families who have a child birth through 17 years of age with a chronic illness, disability, developmental delay, or health risk and who reside in Bexar County or one of the surrounding 18 counties.

Individuals who have had any criminal justice involvement in the past and are looking to plan their comeback can find assistance at the Bexar County Reentry Center.

We know that after leaving the school system, your options are limited. We want to be a part of continuing the journey toward independence to the greatest extent possible. Doing life is not always easy, but it is better when we have a supportive community that surrounds us. We want to help make what life offers attainable for our members and their families.

We go out to explore life in San Antonio to build life and job skills like:

Adults 18+ with Intellectual and developmental disabilities must be High school graduates or have aged out of the school system.

We are near Brooks Army Base.

We accept Medicaid waivers under HCS and CLASS, as well as cash or check.

We offer a sliding scale if needed and it is based on the individual that will be receiving our services.

Family Service Association offers numerous professional counseling services including Individual, Couples, Family, Group, Substance Abuse Counseling, and Consultations.

We also provide educational groups such as Anger Management and Domestic Violence Prevention designed to help maintain personal wellness.

Services are offered locally in the San Antonio metropolitan area and our rural locations. The services are provided through a combination of at-home and office-based visits. Our licensed counselors are available on days, evenings, Saturdays, and by special appointment.

Our counseling professionals provide services to include working with children, youth, families, and seniors. Our team has many specialized skills to address a wide range of counseling needs. Services are offered for both short and long-term depending on individual needs.

Counseling services are now available in both in-person and telehealth formats at the discretion of the client, following an initial enrollment session in-person.

Funding is provided by United Way, Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, Client Fees, School Districts, Medicaid, Private Contracts, Private Insurance, Criminal Justice Division (CJD) Grant, and Office of Attorney General (OAG) Grant.

Promotoras are state-certified community health workers who offer in-home parenting courses focusing on parenting strengths, growth and development of children, establishing nurturing routines, and guiding children's behavior. The parent education classes use a hands-on curriculum with a concurrent children's program, educational groups, follow-up services, and networking activities. The goal is to ensure children are kindergarten-ready and children have a safe, nurturing home.

A unique pilot program created by Councilwoman Gonzales, along with Family Service, it uses a peer-to-peer mentor model, allowing trained community members known as Promotoras, as well as parents in the same targeted zip code areas, to provide valuable in-home healthcare education to families.

District 5, zip codes 78207 and 78205 primarily, but the Promotoras can serve families throughout Bexar County for families with children under the age of 10.

Supported Employment is an additional service that CHCS consumers can receive to assist them in finding and obtaining employment and teaches them the skills necessary to manage their mental illness while maintaining employment.

Communities In Schools programs surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. Our evidence-based approach, adapted to meet each community’s unique needs, is the basis for our success.

Basic Needs: A student cannot focus in the classroom if he or she is hungry, cold, tired, or cannot see the board. Site coordinators see that students' basic needs are met each day.

Enrichment: Our Site coordinators, enroll students in after-school and summer programs, field trips, and youth conferences to help them gain experience essential to meeting college and career goals.

Academic Assistance: Our site coordinators work hard to ensure that students have the resources to progress academically. From providing students with tutors to finding and creating quiet spaces where students can study, we do whatever it takes to create an optimal learning environment.

Life Skills: Through one-on-one workshops, team building, and guest speakers, we work with students to develop social-emotional learning, character education, social skills building, and conflict resolution.

Behavioral Interventions: Many of our students face and overcome difficult obstacles in their lives. However, their survival skills aren’t always effective in the classroom or the workplace. Our program teaches students positive ways to cope with anger, conflict resolution, and other strategies to keep them focused on school.

Family Engagement: Site coordinators connect families with counselors and social workers to ensure the home is a healthy, nurturing environment where students can feel safe.
