Help Navigating the System near

San Antonio Community Resource Directory

Every attempt is made to place children with kinship caregivers (relatives/unrelated person with whom they have a significant relationship). This is not always possible.

If you are teachable, love children, and want to have a positive impact on your community, fostering may be the avenue for you to make a lasting difference in a hurting child's life. But you must know the path is not for the weak and foster care in a child's mind, is the only place where "your mother becomes a stranger and a stranger becomes your mother."

Divinity believes that our foster parents are the true heroes in changing children's lives. It is our desire to equip foster parents to parent “children from hard places” with insight and compassion.  Divinity has embraced the parenting principles taught by Dr. Karen Purvis called "Trust Based Relational Intervention" (TBRI).  Parenting "children from hard places" can not be approached in the same manner as children who have not experienced trauma. All children who are involved in the CPS system have experienced trauma and need caregivers who understand their needs and have the tools to meet those needs. The foster home is where HOPE and HEALING take root.

?We also understand the challenges in maintaining compliance with numerous state regulations, the time constraints involved with paperwork and documentation while parenting children. Divinity strives to provide comprehensive guidance and support to our families all along the way.

‍You can count on us to return your calls and emails within 24 hours!

?Divinity gives HOPE to families who are called to serve "children from hard places.”

Kinship caregivers can be a life-changing resource for children and youth entering care, ultimately reducing the numbers of children placed in out of home group care settings.

Are you a caregiver to a relative child?

Texas law provides a way for kinship (relatives or unrelated individuals with whom a child had a significant relationship prior to coming into CPS care) to become licensed foster parents for children in CPS custody for whom they are the primary caregivers.

‍Family knows family best! Divinity knows family!

‍Divinity has a heart for kinship families and understands the individual challenges that they face both emotionally and financially as they are asked, sometimes unexpectedly, to assume a parenting role for these children.

?Divinity has been serving kinship families from day one and has built the reputation as an agency who goes above and beyond to meet the unique needs of kinship caregivers with respect, common sense, and the compassion they deserve.

‍Our kinship families say we take the stress out of a very confusing process.

‍?All of our services can be offered in Spanish, if that is the preference of the family. Divinity has bi-lingual culturally competent staff in all stages of service.

‍If you are a kinship caregiver for children in CPS custody, we encourage you to call our office 830-890-5838 and speak to a member of our development team about the benefits of becoming a licensed foster home for the children in your care.

Hill Country MHDD Centers provide compassionate care and support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities by providing services that offer hope, support, and recovery.

Our Service Coordinators are trained in person-centered thinking and person-centered plan facilitation, which means they have learned skills to better support individuals to achieve their goals at home, school, work, and in the community.

The Service Coordination team assists with:

  • determining eligibility for services;
  • enrollment into programs;
  • coordinating and monitoring ongoing services;
  • placing individuals on the Home and Community-Based Services (HCS) and Texas Home Living Interest lists;
  • helping students transition from school services to community-based services; and
  • aiding families in finding residential services for children and adults.

If you are interested in IDD Services, please call our IDD Centralized Intake Line at 830-387-5970.

Hill Country is a contracted provider of Home and Community-Based Services (HCS) and Texas Home Living (TxHmL) Medicaid waiver programs; however, we also serve as the Local Intellectual and Developmental Authority (LIDDA), which means we cannot and do not endorse any particular provider. If you or someone you help support receives services through HCS or TxHmL, our Service Coordinators will present all available provider options, including Hill Country, in order to help you make an informed choice about the program that will best meet the needs and goals of the person served.

We work directly with victims who have been sexually assaulted or abused through counseling and coordinating with local resources to get them the help they need.

We provide a 24-hour hotline, court and hospital accompaniment, legal advocacy and information and referrals to available community resources. We provide direct services to survivors and their support systems.

Hospital Advocacy

Every survivor who chooses to go to the hospital for a forensic exam has the right to state-certified advocate accompaniment. HCCC trains and sends advocates around the clock to meet survivors at the hospital and provide support during the exam.

An advocate is dispatched when our center is contacted by the hospital telling us a survivor has arrived or is in route. Advocates stay the duration of the exam and provide support and resources to both the survivor and any loved ones who may have accompanied them.

Ways we help include:

  • Filling out paperwork
  • Providing community resources
  • Giving emotional support
  • Ensuring that no one goes through the process alone

Victim Advocacy

Survivors of crimes such as intimate partner violence and sexual assault have rights, and our advocates strive to ensure that all of these rights are upheld in the legal, financial and social processes that are secondary to surviving these crimes.

Advocacy helps with:

  • Criminal and civil court proceedings
  • Resource development
  • Community connection

24/7 Phone Support

Our trained advocates are ready to take your call through our in-house, 24-hour hotlines. We’re here to help, and your safety is our priority. All calls and chats are answered by a trained advocate and are completely anonymous and confidential.

Everyone is welcome to call or chat—not only survivors, but also their friends and family, as well as anyone with a question about sexual assault or how to support a survivor in their own lives.

A protection order is an order used by a court to protect a person, business, company, establishment, or entity, and the general public, in a situation involving alleged domestic violence, assault, harassment, stalking, or sexual assault.

Intimate partner violence is about power and control. If you are in immediate danger, call 911.

A protection order is an official legal document signed by a judge that orders the abuser to stop abusing or threatening you and/or your children. It can also include other types of relief such as child support, custody, visitation and payment of debts.

The abuser may be ordered to stay away from your home, school or place of employment. You have the right to file for a protection order if someone has abused you within the past six months (180 days) OR if they abuse or threaten to abuse any person under 18 years old now or in the future.

In addition, there are several reasons why it might not be safe for you to return home after obtaining an emergency protective order including but not limited to threats made against pets and property damage done at your residence during previous incidents of violence between yourself and the abuser.

The Texas Technology Access Program (TTAP) supports a statewide network of assistive technology demonstration centers to provide general assistive technology, computer access, and portable computer access demonstrations. Some demonstration Centers have Augmentative and Alternative Communication Devices. Virtual Demonstrations may also be scheduled via a Zoom meeting by contacting the TTAP Demonstration Center. Demonstrations are available to consumers and their family members, the professionals who support them, as well as advocates, employers, and educators.

Demonstrations include an explanation of the function of a device and instructions for its use. There are opportunities at each in-person demonstration event for participants to use or try several devices so that each individual will be better able to determine the most appropriate device to meet his/her specific needs. Upon completion of the demonstrations, participants are given information about further assessment if required, costs and funding, and possible assistive technology vendors for the participant to make an informed decision regarding accessing or acquiring appropriate assistive technology devices.

Consumers may also choose to borrow assistive technology seen at a demonstration from the TTAP Loan Library.
