In working with children and adolescents, RBH believes that it is paramount to address the emotional, behavioral, and cognitive areas in which the child may be struggling. Often in the case of childhood behavioral disorders, there is a significant amount of hyperactivity, impulse activity, or aggression. Disruptive behavior often gets the attention of teachers in the classroom, and defiance at home creates frustration within the family system. Other children struggle with low self-esteem, sadness, and anxiety. Many childhood disorders are complicated by developmental delays stemming from birth trauma and or chronic developmental disorders.

RBH clinicians additionally work to help improve the family system so that communication and conflict resolution at all levels of the family system are healthy. Therapy is designed to help the child develop effective affective identification and expression as s/he works toward improved behavior modification.

Play therapy is a structured, theoretically based therapeutic modality that can be used to treat children primarily between the ages of three to twelve with behavioral disorders, such as anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, depression, attention deficit hyperactivity, autism spectrum, oppositional defiant and conduct disorders as well as behavioral problems, such as anger management, grief and loss, divorce and abandonment, and crisis and trauma.

We provide free testing for high blood pressure, kidney disease, and diabetes across Texas to help detect early-stage kidney disease. Detection at its earliest stages helps to understand what interventions are necessary to encourage a better quality of life and increase knowledge and support in the fight against kidney disease.

Our Texas Kidney Check (TKC) program began in 2013 as a multi-faceted free wellness check. For many of the participants we serve, the TKC is the only healthcare they will receive for the year. With that knowledge in mind, we created an exam that checks hypertension, diabetes, and creatinine in about 15 minutes.

  • Psychological testing is used to gain a better understanding of an individual and their behavior. That is, testing is designed to provide information on personality, cognitive ability, and emotional functioning. Through the use of various psychological tests, the psychologist can determine the proper diagnosis to inform treatment planning. Psychological testing can also assist in differentiating one condition from another as several mental health concerns overlap in symptoms.
  • Pre-Surgical Evaluations for Bariatric Surgery and Spinal Cord Stimulator: Patients scheduled for surgical procedures such as bariatric surgery or the implantation of a spinal cord stimulator are many times required to undergo a pre-surgical psychological evaluation. The evaluation will help patients identify potential obstacles, the capacity to make decisions, treatment adherence, and coping strategies. The evaluation will also help the medical doctors ensure that the patient is well-informed and emotionally prepared for the surgery and the changes that will occur post-surgery.

Osteoporosis is a disease of the bone in which you lose too much bone as you age, making your bones more porous than they should be and weakening their underlying structure. The more porous your bones become, the more likely they are to break.

If you are over the age of 50 and are treated for a fracture known to be indicative of osteoporosis, your physician may refer you for a Bone Health consultation. During your bone health consultation, a provider will work with you to:

  • Educate you on osteoporosis and why you are considered at risk.
  • Evaluate your specific case with a detailed history, physical, and referral for any additional testing necessary.
  • Establish a treatment plan, which might include lifestyle changes and medication to prevent further bone loss or even rebuild bone.

If you are over the age of 50 and experience one of the following types of fractures, you should be screened for osteoporosis:

  • Wrist (Distal Radius) Fracture
  • Spine (Vertebral) Fracture
  • Hip Fracture
  • Shoulder (Proximal Humerus) Fracture

That's why TSAOG Orthopaedics & Spine created the Bone Health Program. Nationally Recognized Expertise in Preventing Fractures.

The Imaging Centers at TSAOG Orthopaedics & Spine offer non-invasive and painless diagnostic procedures through Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) or Computerized Tomography (CT) to be completed for your diagnostic workup.

These imaging services will allow your physician to confirm bone and soft-tissue injuries or diseases that may not be found by a regular X-ray or physical exam.

While the scan time for your imaging procedure varies, please plan on being with us for approximately one hour. This will ensure time to register you for your scan and allow for changing into and out of the gown you will be required to wear for your exam.

For patients presenting with joint pain due to arthritis, the first step is usually conservative treatment, which includes but is not limited to medication and physical therapy (or a home exercise program).

If conservative treatment is not successful, you will likely proceed to interventional methods or joint injections. The most common joint injections both seek to alleviate pain and increase range of motion. They are:

Steroid Injections (or corticosteroid injections) are used to treat inflammation, arthritis, and joint disease. They are commonly used in the knee, hip, and shoulder to relieve pain and swelling, but can also be used to treat pain in other joints including the elbow, wrist, and ankle.

There are benefits and drawbacks to steroid injections, including:

  • Fast Relief – Steroid injections typically offer relief within 24-48 hours of the injection.
  • Short-Term Relief – Pain relief from a steroid injection can last from 6-12 weeks.
  • Limitations on Repeat Use – Steroid injections are often most effective the first time, with subsequent injections losing their efficacy. These injections also cannot be given too frequently without a risk of weakening the surrounding structures of the joint.

Hyaluronic acid injections (also referred to as viscosupplementation) are used to treat osteoarthritis most commonly in the knee. The hyaluronic acid is injected back into the painful joint, coating and lubricating it to reduce friction and pain and increase the range of motion.

Hyaluronic acid is a natural lubricating component in the lining of your joints. However, as we age, our bodies produce this substance at a lower quantity and quality. In patients suffering from osteoarthritis, the hyaluronic acid thins even further, causing friction and pain as the joint operates.

Currently, the FDA has only approved viscosupplementation for use on the knee, but there is evidence to support its use in the hip and shoulder as well. These injections can be given safely if steroid injections have proven ineffective.

Speak to your physician to find out if hyaluronic acid injections may be a good option for you.

In most cases, insurance plans will cover the approved use of steroid injections and viscosupplementation. However, every insurance company has its own standards and guidelines, so it is best to verify your individual coverage prior to scheduling your joint injection.
