San Antonio Community Resource Directory

Communities In Schools programs surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. Our evidence-based approach, adapted to meet each community’s unique needs, is the basis for our success.

Basic Needs: A student cannot focus in the classroom if he or she is hungry, cold or tired, or cannot see the board. Site coordinators see to it that students' basic needs are met each day.

Enrichment: Our Site coordinators enroll students in a wide variety of after-school and summer programs, field trips and youth conferences to help them gain experience that is essential to meeting college and career goals.

Academic Assistance: Our site coordinators work hard to ensure that students have the resources to progress academically. From providing students with tutors to finding and creating quiet spaces where students can study, we do whatever it takes to create an optimal learning environment for our students.

Life Skills: Through one-on-one workshops, team building, and guest speakers, we work with students to develop social-emotional learning, character education, social skills building, and conflict resolution.

Behavioral Interventions: Many of our students face and overcome difficult obstacles in their lives. However, their survival skills aren’t always effective in the classroom or in the workplace. Our program teaches students positive ways to cope with anger, conflict resolution, and other strategies to keep them focused on school.

Family Engagement: Site coordinators connect families with counselors and social workers to make sure that home is a healthy, nurturing environment where a student can feel safe.

Here’s how Safe Place works:

Step One – A young person enters a Safe Place and asks for help.

Step Two – The site employee finds a comfortable place for the youth to wait while they call the licensed Safe Place agency. For the greater San Antonio area that is Roy Maas Youth Alternatives (RMYA).

Step Three – An RMYA staff member will talk with the youth to get more information and explain that an SAPD officer can escort them to the RMYA Bridge Emergency shelter.  If the child is agreeable, the RMYA staff will contact SAPD to transport the youth to the shelter.

Step Four – Once at the Bridge, direct-care staff and counselors meet with the youth and provide support. Agency staff ensures the youth and their families receive the help and professional services they need.

This program is for youth under the age of 18 in need of immediate help and safety.

The world that today’s adolescent lives in, is far more stressful but offers more freedom than any time in the history of our world. As a result we are seeing an entire generation being destroyed due to a lack of addressing the problem of addiction in the hopes that our children will “grow out of this phase” in their lives. We are working with teens in San Antonio and the surrounding area and the problem is staggering!

The program at Alamo City Treatment Services focuses on serving 14 through 17 year olds. We provide individual and family counseling. Our fees are designed to provide accessible treatment for every income. Family participation is strongly encouraged. We have found that the more a family is involved, the more successful the outcome.

If you or family member have a problem with an addiction, please call us at 210-541-8400. Some can stop on their own, but the fix is only temporary. Addiction is a physical, emotional, intellectual, social and spiritual problem that rarely goes away. There is a solution and we want to help. Don’t struggle alone anymore. Let us help you find the answer with a proven solution that works.

NOW for Adolescents specializes in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT-A), individual therapy, and family therapy. Medication management is also available, but our providers cannot prescribe ADHD medications.

For most people, behavioral health difficulties occur occasionally, with periods of symptoms that may vary in type and severity. NOW treatment was developed to fit this pattern. Clients receive intensive services early in treatment and during periods when symptoms are worse and less intensive services in times of greater wellness.

Treatment episodes at NOW typically last 3–4 months. Counselors and clients work together to identify signs that clients may need to return for additional counseling sessions. Our care coordination team will work with every individual to create long-term care plans.

NOW for Adolescents serves people ages 12 to 19.

Community Counselors help people who are uninsured, whose existing coverage does not provide mental health services benefits, who are low-income and lack the money to pay for counseling services, or who would not receive treatment any other way.

Counseling services are provided by trained, licensed professional counselors, licensed clinical social workers, and licensed marriage and family counselors. Sessions are private and conducted in a safe and familiar environment such as churches and community centers.

The first meeting with a counselor is free. A modest fee based on a sliding fee scale is collected for each follow-up session; however, no one is denied service because they cannot pay.

An appointment must be scheduled in advance.

This program is for students at Meadow Village Elementary School.

Are you lonely and hurting (Intimacy and passion are dying out)? Do you find yourself arguing over and over about the same things or issues (Children, in-laws, money, sex, time, and/or power)? Are addictive behaviors playing havoc with your relationship? Do you find yourselves going in different directions on many issues?

The goal of couple counseling is to facilitate healing and unity so that you can overcome your obstacles and achieve the closeness and intimacy that you desire. My goal is to provide compassionate counseling to help couples rediscover friendship and intimacy, learn how to respectfully disagree, and build a life of shared meaning together.

I provide counseling from the Christian worldview while being respectful of your religious beliefs. The client in couple counseling is the couple, both of you together, as distinct from individual counseling, which is also available.

Televists are a form of video/audio conferencing that allows our providers and clinicians to provide services to you in the comfort of your own desired location, anywhere in the state of Texas with privacy. The Clinic will provide access to secure HIPAA compliant conferencing medium at the time of your visit.

While our server is secure and the video platform is HIPAA compliant, we cannot guarantee your confidentiality due to our inability to control your server or the environment in which you are joining the session. You must have a high-speed internet to permit for smooth session and click the link provided to you at the time of your appointment to enable the session.

The Clinic ensures that the interaction between every patient and his or her healthcare provider is completely secure and HIPAA compliant. The teleconferencing software instantly encrypts all forms of data, including video and audio. With telemedicine, travel to our office — and the stress that accompanies it — is eliminated. In addition, telemedicine enables treatment continuity for patients who usually come to the office but are sick or traveling.

Please don’t hesitate to contact our office for more information and to determine if telemedicine/video medicine is a good choice for you.

Televisits based services and care may not yield the same results nor be as complete as face-to- face service for some patients. The need for in-person clinic visit can be determined by the provider/clinician based on necessity. If there is a conflict in treatment plan based on assessment, the clinic will refer you to a local clinic for continuation of care.

STCH Ministries Family Counseling provides care when individuals, couples, and families need help sorting through the challenges of life.

All STCH Ministries counselors are professionally trained and offer counseling that is clinically excellent and distinctively Christian. Our Family Counseling is also a preventative ministry that equips churches to be the first resource for those who are hurting and in need.

Play Therapy

Our counseling offices provide Play Therapy. Play Therapy enables children to express themselves in their natural language. It provides a safe environment that promotes growth and healing while the counselor helps the child cope with difficult emotions and issues.

Resources & Training

Our counselors provide training and information to church leaders and congregations through a variety of seminars and workshops on topics related to the family. Additionally, we offer a resource library of materials to church leaders to help them minister to their church members. For more information call (833) 837-8246.

Counseling services are provided regardless of an individual or family’s ability to pay for them. Donations toward services are accepted and appreciated.
