Chronic drug and alcohol misuse can lead to several harmful consequences, including tolerance, physiological and psychological dependence, and addiction. Substance addiction is progressive, which means it tends to worsen with time. However professional addiction treatment can help you quit using drugs or alcohol, address the underlying issues influencing your substance use, and equip you with the coping skills you need to avoid relapse.

Truth #2: Families are not to blame, and can be the patients’ and providers’ best allies in treatment.
Truth #3: An eating disorder diagnosis is a health crisis that disrupts personal and family functioning.
Truth #4: Eating disorders are not choices, but serious biologically influenced illnesses.
Truth #5: Eating disorders affect people of all genders, ages, races, ethnicities, body shapes and weights, sexual orientations, and socioeconomic statuses.
Truth #6: Eating disorders carry an increased risk for both suicide and medical complications.

Dear Faith Community Leader,
We believe that some people in the community you serve may be unable to make the changes necessary to support their health, despite obesity or complications related to unhealthy eating or inappropriate weight. Many of us with this problem have found help in Food Addicts in Recovery Anonymous (FA). We hope you and those you work with will find information about FA™ useful.
What is FA?™
FA™ is a program based on the Twelve Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous. We offer help and spiritually-based recovery to those whose connection with food can be understood as a form of addiction. We are not a medical group, nor are we connected with any particular form of religion. We charge no dues or fees and our meetings include no weigh-ins. Our membership is international and includes men and women, adolescents, and the elderly. All are welcome.
Who might benefit from FA™?
People who find help in FA™ vary greatly. Some of us have been diagnosed as morbidly obese, while others are undereaters. Among us are those who were severely bulimic, who have harmed themselves with compulsive exercise, or whose quality of life was impaired by constant obsession with food or weight. We tend to be people who, in the long term, have failed at every solution we tried, including therapy, support groups, diets, fasting, exercise, and in-patient treatment programs.
Does FA™ work?
Like Alcoholics Anonymous, FA treats food addiction as a threefold illness: physical, mental, and spiritual. Members have maintained continuous recovery (including stable weight and freedom from obsession with food and body size) for years and even decades. Along with improvements in physical health, FA recovery has brought us better relationships, increased self-esteem, more tools for handling stress, and an ever-deepening spirituality.
Would you like more information?
We would be happy to answer any of your questions, to speak with your colleagues, or to any groups within your worship community. Please contact us via email: [email protected]. Additional information is available at the FA website: www.foodaddicts.org.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
FA Public Information Committee

If someone you love suffers because of food, there is help.
If you are reading this, you may have a family member or friend finding recovery in Food Addicts in Recovery Anonymous (FA). Or, perhaps, someone you care about is suffering as a result of their relationship to food and you wonder if FA can help.
Food Addicts in Recovery Anonymous (FA) is based on the Twelve Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). Unlike diet programs which rely on willpower and effort, FA addresses addiction, and recovery is rooted in surrender. As a result, members find lasting freedom from cravings and maintain healthy weights for years and even decades.
FA members have found that we are addicted not only to foods made with flour and sugar but to quantities of food as well. Many of us have been obese while others were underweight. Some of us maintained a healthy weight but struggled constantly with obsession about our bodies. Without a program of recovery, we are unable to consistently make healthy choices about what we eat, regardless of the incredible willpower often evident in other areas of our lives.
For a basic understanding of food addiction and the program of Food Addicts in Recovery Anonymous (FA), and to read about the experience of other family members with loved ones in FA, read the pamphlet To Our Families and Friends. Here is a sample from that pamphlet:
We want to reassure you that although the beginnings may be difficult, in our experience, the result of the FA program can be a greater love and understanding of each other than was ever possible in the past. After a time, we thoroughly adjust to our new way of living.
We participate in life fully and zestfully, enjoying birthday parties, meals out, holiday celebrations, vacations, and other special times with our family and friends. We come to value our families and loved ones more than ever before, and they tell us that they like the people we have become. If someone you love has just joined FA, we believe that there will be many wonderful times ahead for both of you!

GreySheeters Anonymous has its roots in a small group of meetings of the original Twelve Step fellowship for compulsive eating.
The primary purpose of meetings of GreySheeters Anonymous groups is to help group members stay abstinent and help other compulsive eaters achieve abstinence.
Typically, groups meet at regular intervals, such as weekly or daily.
At meetings, abstinent GreySheeters share their experience, strength, and hope with the group in accordance with the GSA Group Purpose.

It's About Connection
Individuals who have never been in a group are often surprised to discover that they truly enjoy the experience and make significant strides they would not have otherwise made in individual therapy. Groups also allow for exponential multiplication of time and energy. Just one week of Innova's group therapy program is equivalent to over 3 months of individual therapy.
Intensive Outpatient Programs
Our Intensive Outpatient (IOP) treatment offers the option of joining from the comfort and privacy of your home on your smartphone or laptop. You will attend group meetings, with no more than 8-12 in a group, for three days a week.
Typically, the program lasts 12 weeks, depending on individual progression. Our team will walk you from your initial phone call to having you join your first meeting, to ensure you always have support.
- For women, led by women, our goal is to offer support on your journey to recovery using several techniques and methods.
- For Men, leave our program with less irritability, a greater understanding of how to deal with life's stress, and a more confident sense of self.
- Teens are more likely to engage in this setting as it feels safe and protected and speaks to their lifestyle.

Group therapy is a form of therapy in which a small number of people meet together under the guidance of a professionally trained therapist to help themselves and one another. Group therapy involves one or more therapists who lead a group of roughly 5 to 15 patients. Some patients attend individual therapy in addition to groups, while others participate in groups only.
This is an opportunity to target a specific problem in a group setting, such as depression, eating disorders, panic disorders, social anxiety, chronic pain or substance abuse, and more. Group Therapy is a great way to get professional help while gaining support from others in similar situations.
In group therapy, our counselors will first evaluate each person ensuring they are a good fit. Then work together to create a safe, supportive, and cohesive space for the group to address personal, relationship, and societal issues.

It can be frustrating when you are ready to enter substance addiction treatment but find out it may not be affordable. The cost of paying for rehab can be a deterrent for some who believe they will never be able to afford to get help. The good news is that this is not true. Options are available for everyone, including using private insurance to pay for addiction treatment, buying a cheap plan on the Marketplace, using Medicaid or Medicare, or choosing a state-funded free rehab.

Substance addiction is a chronic condition characterized by compulsive drug or alcohol use regardless of negative consequences. It can be difficult to quit using substances on your own, but fortunately, you don’t have to. Many different types of drug rehab and alcohol treatment programs are available, including inpatient, outpatient, holistic, luxury, executive, and demographic-specific, such as LGBTQ+ rehab. No matter your situation, addiction, or needs, there is a rehab that’s right for you.

Youth Awareness Initiative
The “Rise UP/Speak UP” Risk Awareness Program is the first of its kind that aims to educate young people about how drinking can affect their lives. The idea was inspired by the “Red Ribbon Drug-Free Week” presented every October in elementary schools nationwide.
We have developed three distinctly different age-appropriate risk awareness programs to meet the needs of today’s youth.
K-5
Elementary School
Risk Awareness through interactive skits and costumed characters.
6-8
Middle School
Live Victim Impact Panel speakers to form connections to the reality of drugs.
9-12
High School
Staged DWI accident at high school parking lots involving theater students to play victims and real first responders
