St Helena Catholic Church (Faith / Christian )

St. Helena Catholic Church is located in the northeastern corner of San Antonio. The parish was founded in 1974. From the beginning, the people of St. Helena Parish have chosen to be generous with their time, talent and treasure. They have been active and involved in all aspects of parish life. They chose the motto "People Helping People" as an apt description of the spirit of St. Helena's parishioners.

The 50 + group of St. Helena was established to launch six goals that address the dignity and concerns of the entire person, mind, and spirit:

Awareness: Establishing and fostering the role of older adults in the parish and community, providing training in leadership, promoting public relations, holding membership drives, and helping members recognize their talents and service potential for the parish and community.

  • Continuing education: religious topics, health topics, crime prevention.
  • Social/recreational activities: exhibits, talent shows, parties, bake sale dinners, older Americans month and covered dish lunches, games, bingo, cards, sports, picnics, crafts, and tours.
  • Advocacy: keeping informed about political candidates on issues, voting at election time, writing letters to state and national legislators, etc.
  • Encourage self-help and independence.
  • Provide for the development of leadership and coordination among the seniors.

The 50+ group is an organization for, with, and by seniors; the group offers support services throughout the parish, the Archdiocese of San Antonio, and other agencies as may be available, possible, and appropriate.

We would like to have all seniors participate in the seniors program and need volunteers to fill all positions.

Pierced Heart Ministry’s purpose is to bring people together who have loved ones suffering from addiction. Sharing strategies for coping with the addicted one's behavior, your concerns, prayers, tears, and hopes in a safe, loving, confidential, Christ-centered setting.

An open gathering, where people can come and share their feelings and frustrations. A safe non-judgmental environment to express their fears, worries, and their concerns. An accepting and loving place to know they are not alone in their struggles with their loved ones dealing with addiction.

The Pierced Heart Ministry demonstrates, through prayer, listening, and caring for one another, that they are not alone on this journey. Christ is always with them. God’s love will be revealed to them as healing takes place. Create bonds with one another through prayer and sharing.
