We are San Antonio's Community Foundation. We exist to make San Antonio a better place to live. We do this by:
- maintaining, investing, and distributing funds from permanent charitable endowments;
- connecting donors to the causes they are passionate about;
- creating and leading initiatives for the benefit of San Antonio.

We believe in building a city where San Antonio residents are deeply connected, have equitable opportunities to thrive, and contribute to the vitality of the community.
Using trust-based philanthropic principles to guide our grant efforts, the San Antonio Area Foundation invests in the nonprofit community through funds established by caring donors who entrust us with their philanthropic desires.
Our work is centered on understanding our community needs, building relationships with our stakeholders, and being responsive to the feedback we obtain regarding our processes.

Thanks to the vision and generosity of our fund donors, the San Antonio Area Foundation has more than 100 scholarship funds available for graduating high school students and current college students. Each fund has its own criteria based on the fund advisor's interest.
Some scholarships fund a student's education in a specific area of study or to attend a fund advisor's alma mater, while others award scholarships to students from a specific school.

Successfully Aging and Living in San Antonio is transforming our community by advancing practices and policies that improve the quality of life of older adults in Bexar County, especially those most vulnerable.
SALSA has aligned its work to that of the World Health Organization’s Eight Domains of Livability:
- Outdoor Spaces and Buildings
- Transportation
- Respect and Social Inclusion
- Housing and Built Environment
- Communication and Information
- Civic Participation and Employment
- Community Support and Health Services
- Social Participation
SALSA is a collective impact initiative. Collective impact describes an intentional way of working together and sharing information for the purpose of solving a complex problem. Proponents of collective impact believe that the approach is more likely to solve complex problems than if a single nonprofit were to approach the same problem(s) on its own.
SALSA participants are a combination of individuals and organizations, with representatives from the business community, local government, and the social sector. SALSA partners are working on issues of housing, transportation, socialization, engagement, health, and caregiver support.
