Hill Country MHDD provides Outpatient Treatment Services called "HODOS" for Adults 18 years and older. HODOS stands for:

Hill Country MHDD

Outreach for chemical

Dependency and

Outpatient

Services

"HODOS" is an ancient Greek word that portrays an image of a path or way in a culture where walking was the primary mode of transportation. Walking on a path involves choosing to enter on the path and to pursue it in each direction, progress toward a destination, addressing safety and not getting lost, and arriving at a goal.

The purpose of this name is to focus on a "a shift away from crisis-oriented, deficit-focused, and professionally-directed models of care to a vision of care that is directed by people in recovery, emphasizes the reality and hope of long-term recovery, and recognizes the many pathways to healing for people with addiction and mental health challenges" (Surgeon General Report). In focusing on person-centered services, each individual is assessed and specific services tailored to what is important to them are created.

The Linda J. Werlein Hill Country Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) is a 16-bed, inpatient psychiatric unit servicing adults aged 18 and over who are experiencing a mental health crisis and whose symptoms interfere with a person’s ability to remain safely in the community.

Individuals are referred to the CSU by our Mobile Crisis Outreach Team (MCOT) throughout our 19-county catchment area.

Services focus on acute, short-term crisis stabilization providing psychiatric, psychological and nursing services.

The length of stay at the CSU may be a few days or a maximum of 14 days depending on treatment needs and the severity of symptoms. While the CSU assists individuals with the management of various health and therapy needs, the program is not a primary provider for substance use treatment or major medical care.

Following admission to the CSU, each person is evaluated by a multidisciplinary treatment team composed of a Psychiatrist or Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner), Registered Nurses (RN) and Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVN), a Social Worker, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), and direct care staff.

Working from a recovery-oriented treatment philosophy, the treatment team may offer medication management, psycho-education, health education services, psychotherapy, discharge planning, and resource linkage. The treatment team works with individuals on a recovery plan to stabilize their psychiatric symptoms and assist them with their return to the community as quickly and safely as possible.

At Hill Country MHDD Centers we understand how important it is to have support after a mental health or substance use diagnosis.

Our Peer Specialists walk with you during your journey to wellness providing unique support that only a person who has been there understands. Peer Specialists share many of the same experiences of living with a mental health or substance use concern; they are active in their recovery and able to share successes as part of the recovery journey.

With the peer support program, you are not alone. Peer Specialists provide encouragement and practical steps to overcome life’s struggles. They are there to share their experience, provide support, work to develop new skills and empower voice and choice. Most importantly Peer Specialists provide hope that recovery is more than possiblity-it is a reality.

Hill Country MHDD Centers is a Local Intellectual and Developmental Disability Authority (LIDDA). LIDDA services include determining a person’s eligibility for services, enrolling a person into programs, and coordinating and monitoring ongoing services for a person by assigning them a Service Coordinator. Other important responsibilities include placing individuals on the Home and Community-Based Services (HCS) and Texas Home Living Interest Lists, helping students transition from school services to community-based services, and aiding families who are seeking residential services for children and adults.

Our Service Coordinators are trained in Person Centered Thinking and Person-Centered Plan Facilitation - which means they have learned skills to better support individuals to achieve their goals at home, school, work, and in the community. The Service Coordination team coordinates and manages the vast array of services for people diagnosed with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Provider Services support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to achieve an interdependent life and live to their fullest potential by providing individualized specialized services. These services may include in-home, community, and work supports; transportation; behavioral supports, respite, and day habilitation.

Hill Country is a contracted provider of Home and Community-Based Services (HCS) and Texas Home Living (TxHmL) Medicaid waiver programs; however, we also serve as the Local Intellectual and Developmental Authority (LIDDA), which means we cannot and do not endorse any particular provider. If you or someone you help support receives services through HCS or TxHmL, our Service Coordinators will present all available provider options, including Hill Country, in order to make an informed choice about the program that will best meet the needs and goals of the person served.

If interested in IDD Services, please call our IDD Centralized Intake Line at 830-387-5970.
