At The BackYard, we take pride in creating an innovative, structured and peaceful atmosphere for adults with special needs. Our clients with intellectual and developmental disabilities find community at our facility with the most compassionate staff that San Antonio has to offer! The BackYard has an enlightened atmosphere saturated with hands-on learning and social building skill, not to mention art therapy and areas within the facility formulated for physical exercise!
The Backyard is an Individualized Skills and Socialization center that provides a combination of structured time and flex time in order to provide our members with meaningful activities while respecting their opportunity for self-advocacy.
Participants do activities to learn important skills:
- Daily living skills such as cooking, cleaning, functional academics, communication and safety
- Personal care
- Social skills and relationships
- Work practice
- Functional Academics
- Positive behavior
- Creative and artistic skills
- Independence and personal choice
