The mission of Respite Care of San Antonio is to protect, love, build trust, and nurture growth of children with special needs and complex medical conditions while strengthening the families caring for them.
The integrated services developed by Respite Care aid families and create a safe haven for children in crisis. The availability of these essential respites reduces the incidence of child abuse and neglectful environments. Full-time daycare is available, providing parents the opportunity to work or attend school. Part-time day/night out services are available in multiple venues throughout the city, offering parents a short break from caring for their child with special needs. Residential and foster care services provide care for children who have been removed from their home as a result of abuse and neglect. Through a partnership with CentroMed, a non-profit leader in the provision of healthcare services to special populations, a team of pediatric specialists provide onsite medical supports to children in the Developmental Daycare and Respite Care’s residential services, allowing the care of children with complex medical conditions.

Respite Care of San Antonio’s (RCSA) mission is to protect, love, build trust and nurture growth of children with special needs and complex medical conditions while strengthening the families caring for them. RCSA’s vision is for children with special needs and their families to be empowered to reach their maximum potential.
RCSA fulfills its mission by offering community and residential programs for children with medical and special needs, including 24/7 Residential Children's Homes, Community Respite, and Developmental Childcare Programs.
RCSA provides family support services and virtual sessions, including online parent support meetings, and monthly virtual parent and child playdate sessions.
These virtual gatherings help children with special needs and their families relieve stress, foster connections, and receive the support they need during times of crisis.

These two homes are the only emergency shelters licensed by the State of Texas and dedicated to the care of children with special needs.
While children may be privately placed to allow their family to attend to a crisis or enjoy a short respite from the demands of caring for their child, the majority of children placed within Respite Care’s residential service are those in state custody who have been removed from their home as a result of abuse and neglect.
Participating children are enrolled in local schools, participate in recreational and educational activities, and follow a routine identical to that of a child residing in a typical home. Field trips are planned so that participants may experience recreational activities comparable to those of their non-disabled peers.
Children with special needs, ages infant to 17 years.
Children with disabilities & complex medical conditions often require daily medical treatments that may disqualify them from enrolling in traditional childcare programs. Without a childcare option, children fall behind developmentally, and a parent may need to stay home to care for their child’s special needs. Underserved single parents are at greater risk of falling into financial distress when an affordable childcare option is unavailable.

Like other children’s foster shelters, Respite Care of San Antonio's Residential Children's Homes operate 24/7/365 to provide protection and urgent essential needs (shelter, food, clothing, transportation, and care) to children in crisis removed from their homes due to abuse and neglect.
Unlike other shelters, our program is dedicated to serving children with intellectual and developmental disabilities and complex medical conditions. This vulnerable population needs extra resources to overcome the consequences of medical neglect and inadequate care.

At Respite Care of San Antonio (RCSA), we are parents, caregivers, teachers, and advocates, who understand the struggle of finding affordable, quality childcare when school is out for spring break, the summer, and around the holidays. This is why RCSA is committed to offering childcare services for children with complex medical conditions and/or disabilities throughout the year during San Antonio Independent School District's spring, summer, fall, and winter breaks. At these camps, children enjoy creating art projects, developmentally stimulating activities, and plenty of outdoor playtime led by tenured staff members.
